. . .especially the part about how the "good faith" dollars are real money. . .

I take everything good I said about TAMU Athletics. That has got to be the dumbest AD in America.

Bear with this link for the 15 second commercial. Lucy is Texas and Charley Brown is A&M. I think this says it all

It's not just the AD, unfortunately. The president of TAMU and the board of regents all share the blame for a complete lack of vision and common sense.

Don't be so hard on them... We really don't know what kind of political pressure was being brought to bear on these guys. I mean look at it... One minute the BOR is about to join the SEC, and then suddenly they're staying in the Big-12.

Yeah I am thinking at some point this was much bigger than A&M just deciding to move to the SEC. There are some powerful people in high places in Texas that you just don't say no to.

guys, while I'm not a big fan of AD Byrne, I can tell you that this go deep into the Texas Legislature and the Feds.

We could have still bolted, but there would have been some consequences in our budget.

This is correct. If not for intense political influence brought upon the universities, Texas would be in the Pac 16 and A&M would be in the SEC.

Yep, and instantly, A&M would have moved past Texas into the "Big Leagues"....

No offense, but if aTm would have moved to the SEC they would get a larger share of the athletic revenue and eventually would have surpass UT as an athletic program gaining more sway and power and eventually be in more control of their budget instead of being UT's little bitch.

Not flaming. Just calling it like I see it.

By all accounts Byrne (A&M's AD) was not the decision maker in this one. He is towing the company line, but he has even admitted he was excited about going to the SEC. A lot of reasons are circulating as to why we made this decision, but a lot of that is spin to try to quell the angry Aggie fan base.

Those two things would never happen together. The whole deal fell apart because klanhorns got butthurt about A&M joining the best athletic conference and tu forming the Soft-16 with West Coast U. If A&M had chosen any other destination besides SEC, tu would be in the Soft-16 right now.
