Texas must have really POed the PAC10 yesterday. I don't think Slive is real happy with A&M right now.

If the PAC10 picks off Tech, and the SEC picks off say OU or Mizzou. Could Texas be left as a really insignificant independent. Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch.

Probably time for FOX to throw some money at the PAC10 to make a deal work.

no matter how much you may hate them, Texas will never be insignificant. They are probably the only other school besides Notre Dame than could survive as a independent.

Surviving and remaining successful are two different things.

Notre Dame survives, but isn't real successful.

Actually slive is sitting back with a HUGE grin on his face . He knows what he did, and it's gonna sit with Texas for a LONG time.

its not because they dont have the money. They have high academic standards and they cant hire a freaking coach to save their life.

I don't think Slive is upset at all. The offer may have been contingent on UT destroying the conference and going to the Pac-10, which may still happen if Tech pulls guns up on UT and refuses to sign any deal not giving all schools parity.

If nothing else Slive gauges (in the event the SEC needed or wanted to expand) whether he could expand into Texas with a major team in the fold. He knows UT would never consider the SEC (and Tech is NOT a major Texas team) so that leaves A&M. Slive now knows that A&M fans really love the idea of joining the SEC, and that several of the A&M Regents would vote in favor.

Slive also has to think the SEC fared pretty well even if it ends up as it stands. PAC 10, with USC in the penalty box for at least 3 years, isn't a challenge. Nebraska in the Big 10 is going to prevent it from being the Ohio State bye to the BCS season (and all too often the BCSCG), and the Big 12 is pretty much the same (UT vs. OU), but with a lot more dissension in the ranks. SEC is probably stronger relative to the others as a whole than before.

Bingo.

SEC's biggest "competition" regionally is the Big12 and the ACC. ACC didn't change, Big12 lost some power.

winner = SEC
