So, A&M is GUARANTEED AT LEAST $20-million annually for staying

That's more than they were set to make in the Pac-10 or SEC and more than twice as much as they made this past year. They also have more power than they had in the past and are on equal footing with Texas and OU in the fact that they are all operating under the same guarantee.
ESPN/abc, not the Aggy AD, screwed us out of adding another quality school to the SEC.

I rather divide money by 12 not 14.

so does the sec get money out of this because I can't see the sec being happy about the big 12 who is worse then them get more money from espn

These are all just numbers being tossed around. I wonder what it will actually come out to be when all is said and done.

The only reason, IMO, ESPN stepped up and paid was b/c the SEC would have demanded to renegotiate after adding an additional team(s)(stipulated in the contract).
ESPN, essentially, overpaid for the BigXII-2, and completely sabatoged re-alignment. Today the news will be that ABC/ESPN is paying most of the new TV contract, with FOX throwing in some money to reach the $20 million number A&M, UT, OU wanted.
ESPN screwed everyone, not just us.

anyone else feel like we should have opted for an SECTV on our own and not buddy up with espin?

I'm happy for A&M. They exposed Texas' "it's all about academics" fraud, prevented them from fulfilling their unexplainable life long dream of being "Californian" and got themselves on a relatively equal footing with Texas in their TV deal. The only thing Texas got was their network, but it's my understanding they could have that under the old Big 12 agreement.
The Southwestern-ish Conference is going to fail. The networks won't be able to generate enough nationwide excitement to generate necessary advertising revenue with only 2 or 3 teams worth watching -- and like someone else said, the first time Texas finishes their conference ranked #2 in the nation and a #3 or #5 ranked SEC team jumps them and winds up in the MNC after the SEC championship game, they'll unravel. Epic meltdown...

Agreed. ESPN actually directly screwed college football with their BS at the last minute.

They are NOT making more money than the s.e.c., they are getting a bigger % of their contract pie. S.E.C. has a bigger contract with e.s.p.n. and has a contract with c.b.s.. they just paid 17.8 million to EVERY TEAM with a greater number expected next year.
other than OU, UT, and aTm, the other schools will make 1/2 of what vandy gets.
this is a band aid. in three years this story plays out again. s.e.c. will be paying teams 25-30 million, big XII will be significantly less with no negotiating power.

Good for A&M! If they will only use the new funds to improve their football program.

i've heard grumblings that Tceh is none to happy with getting less money than us...so there's still a chance this new Big XII deal falls through...
Posted on 6/15/10 at 9:49 am to TammanyMan02
do we have anything more than speculation that it's ESPN?
doesn't it seem CBS or NBC may very well be the white knight that's riding in to save the conference?

I don't see what Tech can do. They have no leverage.

they might be unhappy...but what leg does Tech have to stand on? There's nothing they can do. They are Tier III Tech in that dusty toilet bowl called Lubbock that rides on the tails of Texas. They know this. The idea of Tech busting up the deal is almost as believable as Okie State bringing it down.

I think they may still hold an "if you want it, it's there" offer do join the Pac 10...

I still don't think that would be enough to make Texas bolt to the pac 10. Just get even more money in the big 9

What does Tech offer that the PAC 10 wants so bad that they would leave them a standing offer?
I'm not saying you are wrong-well, yes I am.
