Are they expanding these conferences....

to put more pressure of getting rid of the BCS bowls and pushing for a more playoff structure??
It almost seems like they are unless I'm missing something.

It may end up happening that way, but I don't think it's the original reason for doing it as the Pac-10, Big 10 and Big 12 were opposed to the playoff system proposed by the SEC and ACC.

it would be much easier to pass a playoff plan than to disintegrate a conference, as far as University Presidents are concerned

There is no excuse for not having a playoff now. They cant say its about students out of class because with the long distance teams will have to travel with these new conferences, thats proof that was bullshite.
Sure the football team may fly, but what about the girls tennis team, etc...

Only makes sense for 4 conference champs playing in +1 scenario. Bigger conferences don't really help with any other playoff format.
