Baylor University Reaction and Economic "Study"

The new Baylor president Ken Starr has his hands full upon returning home to Texas. I bet the ocean view from Pepperdine is pretty attractive now. Ken Starr's Statement
The statement contains links to statements or articles by the state representative for Baylor--an alumnus--and the congressman for Baylor and Texas A&M--an Aggie alumnus.
My favorite is the citation and link to a study released by the Perryman Group in Waco that discusses the economic impact of the "Texas Four."
There is also a link to the Baylor Nation site.

So when is Georgetown going to start playing Division I football?

You should also know that Baylor is continuing to seek as much unity as possible among the members of our conference and to fight for cohesiveness among the Texas universities of the Big 12.
You may also be aware that there have been calls today from public officials to hold hearings in the Texas Legislature that will permit public comment on changes in the composition of the Big 12 conference. Because of the powerful impact that realignment of the conference could have on the Texas economy, including the communities that host the universities of the Big 12, lawmakers are calling for a thoughtful and careful analysis of any proposed change to the Big 12. These elected officials believe changes to the conference as we know it would have profound economic implications for the citizens of Texas and potentially damage historic rivalries that are more than a century old.

Central Texas Congressman Chet Edwards released a letter today urging state government leaders to hold immediate hearings in the Texas Legislature on the future of the Big 12 and its impact on Texas.
Translation - every politician in Texas will try and make sure they can posture in a way that wins them points with their constituents.
Short term I think this stuff works - long term I wonder. I'd be reluctant as hell to invite hangers on like Texas Tech and Baylor to a conference - even if it landed me Texas and/or A&M - because these guys will act as a block and consider each other's interests over the rest of the conference

Ding, ding, ding.
If it requires taking all 4, let the left coast deal with that shite. They can have the Texas block and California block fight it out.

We currently play in the Patriot League in FBS. If this realignment occurs and the ACC keeps poaching, the Big East may become FBS.
In my days on the Hilltop, we were Div. I basketball champs and Div. III football chumps.
Current NCAA rules require a school to be in the same division for all sports.
