With his president's blessings, Broyles said he discussed his plans with Texas and A&M, which both showed "great interest," then initiated talks with the SEC in 1987 or '88.

Only Texas and A&M didn't follow his lead. Broyles was told that political pressures kept both from leaving without Baylor, which seems likely.

interesting for Hog fans.

But what if Arkansas had remained in the SWC and become part of the Big 12?

quote:

"I was told by people in the Big 12 after the fact that we would not have been included," he said. "Baylor and Texas Tech had political power. We didn't. The Big 8 was only going to take four teams from the SWC.

Didn't check your link but heard this interview on the radio yesterday. After the interview the hosts were shocked that Arky wouldn't have been part of the Big 12. Broyles gets some heat from some AR fans but he definitely hit the right buttons in this case.

Broyles made the right move then, and so did Nebraska now.

laugh all you want. baylor is a tagalong school that brings nothing in football and is good every once in a while in basketball. baylor brings no tv interest and a tiny fanbase.

Broyles has made some mistakes late in his Arkansas career and I have been critical of him at times. But his foresight to get us out of the SWC and into the SEC years ago will go down as his very best accomplishment at Arkansas. This alone makes me overlook all other issues he had late in his career.

You're right about football and rantings...you must be a big shot of sorts concerned about the money aspect of everything..which I'M SURE will effect you personally...i'll give you that. How was your SEC basketball appearance...we went into extra innings in our Baseball Tourney Championship game too...a stronger baseball conference btw...but we didn't win like you...congrats...how did the Women's side of sports do at LSU...oh, and your football team...on the rise right?

*troll mode activated* just because you were dumb enough to bite...

if that is your best attempt to troll you have much to learn. this is about football which brings in the money, and your school doesn't bring in jack shite. no one goes to watch baylor play and no one cares to watch them on tv. as for shitting on LSU basketball and baseball, i'd put our b-ball team's history up against yours anyday and baseball is no contest. and are you your really shite talking women's sports? really?

History? Feel free to look into BU's...

The sad truth is LSU has one market, Louisiana...you think you're a Notre Dame, a USC, a UT, hell, you even think you're a Miami????...and again with the money...

YOU ARE A FAN...you are sadly more concerned about ratings/money then you are about Basketball, Baseball, Track, etc...
