If the SEC adds some Texas schools does this hurt our recruiting ability in that state?

Was in a meeting with a very influential person this morning when his Berry kept going off.......it was updates from a big conference meeting held today. UT is absolutely gone and possibly TAMU to the Pac-10.

The industry is posturing for a 4 super conference BCS alignment to produce the 4+1 format.

A&M would help the SEC overall (gillions of alums, $$, Houston and Dallas markets), but hurts LSU's recruiting in east Texas and Houston. If A&M goes west with Texas, it is good for LSU.

We'll always be able to go into Texas...it's too big for us not to be able to.

How does it hurt recruiting...it's not like we aren't already battling TAMU for recruits.

I think A&M would be able to sell local (east Texas and Houston) recuits that it is better to play in SEC stadiums than on the west coast (even though A&M would largely be playing the same schools in the PAC-whatever). LSU would still do well, but I believe that we could really use A&M-to-the-PAC-whatever to our advantage especially in the Houston area against A&M.

When aTm was up, we were down. When we are up, aTm is down.

I think it would hurt if a kid from Houston wants play in the SEC but be close to home. If aTm is in the Pac-16, he's LSU's. If aTm is in the SEC, he goes to aTm.

I think that situation would apply to a very small percentage of prospects we would consider, not to mention LSU doesn't ever have a down year in recruiting :duh:.

But look at those recruits it may apply to. Russell Sheppard, T. Tolliver, Craig Loston, Evan Washington, Chancey Aghayere, M. Brockers, Zach Lee, etc.

I i think it hurts our recruiting because we are the closest SEC school to TX and we use that as a pitch when we recruit there. If some kids can play in the SEC and stay in-state that doesn't help us. Also, you catch more shite and get pressured more to stay in-state if you're planning to the leave the state and play in the same conference. It's easier for kids to get out of TX when they are leaving for another conference....

Well those guys haven't produced anything so nbd.

Jk! I'm very excited about those prospects and you're right about those critical and special recruits we've nabbed. However, I just like to think that they picked LSU for other reasons than being an SEC school.

It is a big recruiting advantage for LSU to go into Texas being the closest SEC school. Those recruits know that the SEC is the best conference for college football. If A&M and UT go Pac 10, LSU will continue to mop up for years in that state.

Texas fans are worried about A & M's recruiters telling these kids this exact thing:

quote:

aggy will immediately get better in recruiting. "Young man, you will be in the SEC. You're gonna be on ESPN. And you can stay right here at home in Texas. You can go play those west coast schools if you want... on Fox... or you can play in the best conference on the best college TV channel."

Arkansas is just as close to East Texas if not closer as far as SEC teams are concerned. Granted they have not been relevant in a while for god knows why, but they should be able to raid TX and they do not. LSU is closer to Houston and along I-10.

They are closer to the Dallas/Plano area and do get some recruits from there. We are closer to Houston which is where we get most of our Texas guys.
