How do the scholarship reductions work? Is it just a limit to how many they can sign each year or do they actually cut below the 85 limit. If they just take away from the 25 allowed/year I don't think they are really being penalized. Look at their last few classes, they only signed over 20 once.

2010 – 20
2009 – 18
2008 – 19
2007 – 19
2006 – 27
2005 – 19

If they take away 4/year over five years there is no real impact to recruiting.

If they did a reduction of 7-7-6 over three it is really equivalent to taking 2-3 total.

I know it will limit their ability to offer scholarships to walk-ons...but based on their signing history, I wonder if the number just seems more significant than reality. Am I missing something?

It'll hurt depth, but USC has always signed smaller classes than basically any other major school like you said so it shouldn't be too dificult to cut some scrubs and get down to the limits

The bowl ban is a bigger deal because it's a recruiting killer

Doubtful. I mean they would have to take away schollies from kids that have them.

THey probably just have to reduce future schollies by a certain amount over a certain term. Like maybe 7 per year over 3 years.
