Whether you agree or not, it certainly gets the wheels turning about the life we americans live and the things we are willing to sacrifice for it. Some of the comments below the article are worth reading through IMO.

I say drill at ANY price. Got to have that oil. It makes our economy go 'round.

This is not a perfect world. Anyone who has taken a college level Economics class should know that The U.S. economy is an oil based economy and you cannot change that over night.
We have to drill and move toward alternatives at the same time.

The world economy is oil based and no matter what kind of alternative fuels are developed it will continue to be so for the next fifty years. I'm all for alternatives but the people need to realize you just don't stop oil overnight.

Not to hijack but I really get agitated about how alternatives are being encouraged. It seems to me that Tax Benefits should be given to U.S. companies that produce "Vehicles" that can be affordable to the average citizen. (By Vehicles I dont mean cars, I mean "A means through which...")
For one example most if not all solar panels are manufactured outside of the U.S. This needs to change but wont as long as TAX credits to the end user are all thats given. We could develop a better product and create jobs that way.

couldn't agree with u more. the scary thing is that i feel we wont "ease" in to a transition, something catastrophic will have to happen to force us to change. Makes me wonder if this disaster will cause people to start thinking more about this kind of stuff or will they just go back to life as usual till it happens again?
