If you took 100 random people from _____ metro area, and asked them to rank their professional sports teams in order of how much they want them to win a title in the next year/season, how would some of the compiled rankings look?

Example (the easiest one I could think of):
Dallas: Cowboys > Mavericks > Rangers > Stars

Agree/disagree with the following:
Atlanta: Braves > Falcons > Hawks > Thrashers
Twin Cities: Vikings > Wild > Twins > Timberwolves (edited)
Saint Louis: Cardinals > Rams > Blues
Miami: Dolphins > Heat > Marlins > Panthers
Philadelphia: Eagles > Phillies > 76ers > Flyers
Boston: Red Sox > Celtics > Patriots > Bruins
Phoenix: Cardinals > Suns > Diamondbacks > Coyotes
Washington: Redskins > Capitals > Wizards > Nationals (edited)
Denver: Broncos > Avalanche > Nuggets > Rockies (edited)
Cleveland: Browns > Cavaliers > Indians
Pittsburgh: Steelers > Penguins > Pirates
Houston: Texans > Astros > Rockets

Four weird ones that you have to think about (and I'm uncertain about all of them):
New York: Yankees > Giants > Knicks > Jets > Mets > Rangers > Nets > Devils > Islanders
Chicago: Cubs > Bears > Bulls > White Sox > Blackhawks
San Francisco Bay Area: Raiders > Giants > 49ers > Athletics > Warriors > Sharks
Los Angeles: Lakers > Dodgers > Clippers > Angels > Kings > Ducks

I think you're really underestimating hockey in a few of those cities, FWIW.

The hockey teams keep staring back at me awkwardly in these lists, honestly, especially Washington, Philadelphia, and Denver.

Detroit's a tough one. I'd guess:

Lions > Red Wings > Pistons > Tigers

I agree with those teams, but I think the worst one you have is the Wild last. They've sold out every game in their entire 10 year history, even in years they've sucked (like this one).

Whoa. You have Rangers over Knicks? I'd say 80% of black people in NYC would have Knicks at #1.

I'd forgotten all about that--I'm changing it. My order for the TC is pretty much stupid.

The tough thing about this list, too, is you have to try to keep it in mind if each team was equal, as far as record goes. It's easy to think of the Caps as higher in Washington, but I'm not sure if that's not just because they've been dominant (in the reg season, anyway ) lately. Similar to the Cavs in Cleveland.

I think the Jackets are higher than OSU b-ball (if both teams had equal success). It was pretty close this year (I think the Jackets actually may have had higher attendance) and the Jackets sucked while the Bucks won the Big Ten and had the NPOY.

Great point. Every city is different, too. The Saints would always outrank the Hornets no matter if a) the Saints won 10 straight Super Bowls or b) the Hornets won 10 straight NBA Finals. Same with Dallas--the Cowboys will always be #1 no matter what.

My pal from Philadelphia says that the Phillies recent success has them ahead of the 76ers and Flyers and maybe even ahead of the Eagles, which I find hard to believe. Philly is a town where all four teams have enjoyed success recently, and I'd bet the order changes often.

I'd say that the teams that will always be #1 in their city no matter what are:

Cowboys
Lakers
Browns
Redskins
Broncos
Yankees
Braves

Unfortunately for the jackets, they don't have equal success.

Definitely. Would the Argonauts rank higher or lower than the Raptors?
