Readers comments: Don... Why LSU will BE Back in 2010:
1. Bama having to replace so many on defense, and playing a tough schedule including LSU on the road. But don't put it past Saban to be back strong...but I still think 9-3 or 10-2 is what to expect.
2. The development and exciting play of 5 potential playmakers on defense: Peterson, Shephard, Loston, Nevis, and Montgomery
3. The speed and coaching on defense; and imporved play up front.
4. Josh Jasper, Derick Helton, and continued consistent special teams coverage.
5. A big, strong, talented, and deep offensive line playing with a chip on their shoulders after a poor showing as a unit last year. I think Hebert needs to go, and is not a person committed to LSU. The size up front could be the biggest overall size the LSU line has had ever.
6. Running the ball with authority and the immergence of Michael Ford from Leesville; and/or Spencer Ware. Les Miles will be totally sold out towards the run.
7. DeAngelo Petersen at tight-end
8. The addition of Billy Gonzalez working with Jordan Jefferson
9. Miles knows that his job is on the line, and if not his then certainly Studrawa and Crowton. The TAF will NOT stand for another 8-4 8-5 season with top 8 recruiting classes the past three seasons including the No.1 class in 2009. If LSU is going to have any hopes of winning the West it will be this year because of Alabama being down, and Auburn still not there on defense. Arkansas could win the West, and I think the LSU-Arkansas could actually mean something at the end of the season.
10. Jordan Jefferson, "finally getting it." If JJ falters early in the GA. Dome look for Jarrett Lee in the 2nd half against what could turn out to be the best defense LSU will play.

I was looking for this on here. That guy lost me at #1! His first F'ing reason LSU will be back is because Bama will be "down"

All Saban needs to be beat LSU is a serviceable defense. LSU's offense is not going to be very good at all in 2010.

some not all, but it is a nice breakdown.
definately agree, and I believe the emergence of Montgomery will be the difference, D is gonna be there.

THIS; 100% agree, Ridley will pound it as a starter then Ford will come in and run all day. This will put les in tunnel-vision mode, we will be primarily running, not forcing the pass. This in turn will help JJ, which will in turn open it up for the 3.

Our offensive line was supposed to be big, strong, talented, & deep last year & that didn't exactly pan out. I agree on the Hebert part, I don't think the kid has the "attitude" to be a center in the SEC. He gets pushed around way too much & doesn't ever look like he has fire. I sure hope #5 is right because #1 is a wash, #2, #3, & #4 are the most realistic. #6,#7,& #8 all realy kind of hinge on #5 & the first part of #9. I hope his breakdown really has some truth in it but I look for it all to hinge on #5, does LSU have an O-line capable of allowing the talent we have on offense, & the lack thereof at QB, to compete & be game changers? I hope so & I will believe they do until they prove me wrong.

I agree lsu will be "BACK". for many reasons.
1) a defense usually improves from year one to year two under a new D.C.. See pelini at nebraska, saban here and bama, muschamp at texas, ect. (my only question, are we big enough at the d.t. position to stop the run).
2)If the answer to my question above is yes. then i feel very good about a stronger pass rush in third or second and long. A stronger pass rush causes the qb to make mistakes. i believe we will have one of the top secondaries in the country, therefore, stronger pass rush results in more turnovers. ***turnover margin is the most deciding statistic in football. usually the team that gets the most turnovers, wins the game.
3)we will have one of the top secondaries in the conference if not the country.
4)a bigger, stronger, more talented offensive line. this helps control the ball, the clock, and passing game.
5)lsu WILL HAVE A FB. people haven't given enough weight to this deficientcy last year. we didn't have one last year. this helps pass protection and the running game.
6)Michael ford. He's an all around back. speed to outside, strong between the tackles. won't have to use a trindon for the outside and a scott for the inside. the defense doesn't have an idea if we go wide or not.
7)Bill G. influence on the offense and his use of R. Shepard. I like seeing Shepard in the wildcat, rb, and slot during the spring. keeps the defense on their heals as to where he may line up and what defense they should line up in.
8) Contrary to peoples belief in the spring game, j.j. showed me something in the cap one bowl. when he lined up, read the defense, changed the play to a slant for b.l. and hit him for a t.d., I saw progress.
9) maybe the best special teams in the conference. jasper may be the best fg kicker. Our punter was in the top of the s.e.c. last year for net yardage. The return game looks solid with p.p. returning punts. maybe better than what he had last year.
10)Florida and bama doesn't have anywhere to go but down. Florida lost tebow, charlie strong, and a ton on defense. Bama lost a ton on defense. i don't see them as strong, although they will be good. With that said, we were in it to win it with them last year.
overall i see lsu as a more talented team this year than last. i like the fact they are under the radar. they are one of very few teams that does not have to learn a new offense or defense. they will just be able to play ball. For their struggles last year, they were two plays away from winning 11 games. Just a little improvement can result in big rewards. They do have a tougher schedule, therefore, they can be improved, a better ball team, yet their record could be the same. i see 9 to 10 wins this year.

bama will be good. however, expecting any s.e.c. team to go undefeated in the s.e.c. three years running, isn't a fair expectation. Not a slap against your team, just reality. there hasn't been a repeat n.c. or s.e.c. champ in a very long time.

As much as I hate to admit this, Tradition is right. Nobody coaches players up better than Saban. Alabama will re-load not re-build. Now that his "process" is implemented, Bama will always be a force. The days of "Shula" style mediocrity are over for this program. And, they have the officiating in their back pocket. The only thing the SEC can hope for is for Bama to get hit with a severe NCAA sanction or Saban gets itchy feet again.

The O-line will be BY FAR the most scrutinized unit we put on the field. I really like Lonergan and Hurst and think we should have huge success with running the ball this year. Let JJ mirror the recent success recipes of Flynn, McElroy, and others.
