Not looking good...
looks like you might be fishing from LA 1, although LA Sportsman says you can fish the bays and back of the island just not the front side of any beach

Still go.
Fish the bays, the side the road, plenty of places
The island looks cleaner than ever.
I was on Grand Isle Beach this morning and it looked cleaner than ever.
I hope it stays that way

Well in all honesty. I did not mention the slight oil sheen we saw 7 miles out.
One small little patch of a light sheen which could have easily come from the rig we were fishing at the time.

Does anyone know if you can run through state waters to federal right now? Or do they have the launches shutdown?

i'm willing to bet the bays & salt marsh will be packed with fish escaping the slick. could be very interesting...

Sorry for the length of this post, but thought it would answer your question (from rodnreel.com):
Louisiana Charter Boat Assoc.
AS OF 6:20PM 5/9/2010
This is a forwarded email I received Most of you are aware of the new closure of the state waters on the Gulf side involving state waters.
AS PER NOAA, the official that I talked to confirmed that right now there are no plans for the feds to follow suit with a federal closure. The FEDS are doing their own evaluation and will update as needed. They stressed that this is a fluid situation but the rumors that some of you may have heard about a pending FEDERAL CLOSURE for this evening are apparently NOT TRUE. This situation is fluid and is subject to change with future updates.
AS PER WLF, the state waters are closed to fishing however, you will be allowed to transit these waters as long as you still have access. This is mostly for the offshore guys. As long as your marinas and your passes are open you will be allowed to transit through state waters to get to the open federal waters. WLF wanted to stress that they had no issue with you having fish on board while you transit the waters, however you should give them no reason to suspect that you may be fishing in closed state waters. If your customers need to use the restroom and that requires you to stop, it might be best if you did it before you reach state waters.
Hope this helps if you are a charter boat captain right now would be a great time to join the Louisiana Charter Boat Association. It is very informative to what is going on and can help all of us.

I wish there was a way too keep all the df's from dumping the cigarettes, chicken neck packages and beer cans all over the beach.

Only a matter of time before the inland waters are closed. The barrier islands are nothing more than a strip of beach with hundreds of points of access to the gulf. If it is on last island then it is in Lake Pelto, Terrebonne Bay, Lake Barre Etc...

I agree 100%.
But right now, beer cans and chicken neck wrappers are the least of our problems IMO.

True, I can't imagine what it's going to be like if it gets into Barataria Bay.
