living in atl area, we have charter cable. charter sports features a show called "talkin' football". hosted by tony barnhart, mark schlabach, bob neal and brady ackerman. last night they aired the spring wrap up show. all 4 picked bammer to repeat as nc. ackerman, schlabach, barnhardt picked les as THE hot seat guy. all said that the fire will ignite if they drop #1 to unc. barnhardt predicts r rod fired, miles voluntarily to mich. Thoughts? ill hang up and listen

No way Michigan installs this guy as their next head coach.

i think rod gets his walkin papers. they will go after les. i firmly believe that. if offered, this time he goes. mich would love 9-3/10-2 and the every 2-3 yrs victory over osu. particularly after what they have been through. r rod-wrong place/wrong time.

LSU vs. UNC is a true toss up game. Either could win. I see a scenario in which LSU wins close, UNC wins close or LSU wins going away. Don't see any way UNC cruises. If LSU drops this one, Les' seat will be very hot.

Best case scenario. This implies no Miles Meltdown, but a good enough season for him to leave voluntarily. No termination, no buyout, and no more Miles. I love it!!!

yeah, for the sake of the program, i dont want a yr in which we have to fire any coach, that being said, as a fan, i cant take another 8-4. that would make it time for a change. i dont wanna slip to being perennial chick fil a bowl repeaters. avoiding the buyout would help.

So would y'all go after Tommy Tubberville if Les leaves?

Preseason crap is always very wrong. They are human and they are tainted with impressions from 2009.
A full 1/3rd of the ranked teams in the preseason Top 25 in 2009 ended up not being ranked at all in the end. And it's not like they get things wrong just in the back end. Oklahoma was preseason #3 and ended unranked. How about preseason #4 USC? They barely were ranked at #22 by the end. Remember SI cover boys Ole Miss and Okie State? Ended up 20th and unranked, respectively.
Everyone is on Bama's nuts right now. Why not, they return the Heisman Trophy winner, went 14-0 and have a great coach. But it doesn't take a genius to see that they have a good, not great, offense and major question marks on defense.
You can easily see Bama going 9-3 or 10-2 this year. That will get them a New Year's Day bowl, but not a repeat MNC.
Meanwhile, LSU is on everybody's shite list right now and Les Miles is on the hot seat. Some morons over at Sports Illustrated have LSU being unranked this season. I'm sorry but that is retarded. LSU lost four games last year. In all 4, LSU was in position to win the game but fell short and was never dominated. Two of them were to eventual national champ Alabama and 13-1, #3 Florida. LSU's problem is that just as they were never dominated, they also never seemed to dominate lesser opponents in large measure due to an anemic offense that suffered from subpar QB play and mediocre line play. And, the Ole Miss debacle turned the fans on Les Miles, so it's both easy and fashionable to pick on LSU.
However, LSU comes into 2010 with a QB who, while disappointing to date, has 14 career starts under his belt and the physical tools to be a very good QB. If Jefferson matures into a player this season, LSU will be nasty.
Consider the talent in Baton Rouge right now. Of the last 5 recruiting classes, only one finished out of the top 10 and it (2008) was #11. LSU has the 4th highest average finish over the past 5, 4 and 3 seasons (however you slice it) of any major college program. And over the past 2 years we're 3rd. That's remarkable consistency in adding talent. Sure, it's not perfect, but it is a decent proxy for the talent we have.
Talent + veteran QB can easily lead to a 10-2 or better record. Anyway, I expect the talking heads (and some posters on this board) to have a very different view of LSU and Les Miles in about 7 months than they do today.

Very salient and thorough analysis Mike. Kudos.
Hope we surprise a lot of people in 2010. Would definitely enjoy kickin Tricky Nicky's and Urban's asses.

Totally agree, I think the season hinges on this game...especially as far as the fan base is concerned.

I'm calling a one loss season and everyone will be back on the miles bandwagon... just a thought

I honestly think that we will blowout unc like we did in 07 with va tech. Many expected us to win a close one but the game ended up like 45-7 or somewhere along there. I see LSU winning by at least three Tds Amd also agree with the poster right ahead of me that we will only have a 1 loss season losing to either Arkansas or Florida. Then everybody will jump off the " get Les the frick out of here" bandwagon. But this just my 2 cents on lsu's year.

I can just see some responses that are due in just a couple of minutes.
ex.
"Guys, I have been watching these guys on the show since I was 3, and they have no knowledge of the game whatsoever. I stopped watching ESPN and Schlabach is a waste time."

I just don't see it happening unless Les and LSU has a season that produces 10 to 11 wins and a major bowl (BCS) victory and I don't see where LSU is on course for that to occur. If Les wins 8-9 games in 2010 there is no way Michigan would want to make what could be considered a less than obvious upgrade in their coaching status.
Michigan is a proud program that has slipped into mediocrity. Why would they want to hire a coach not highly regarded as a game strategist?

I agree with the one loss, but I think it will be at Jordan Hare.
