Don't worry about being rusty. My industry slowed down and I got an Environmental Science degree at age 48 (first degree - ChE).

Back to School as a 28 year old - Petroleum Engineering
Anyone have any thoughts/advice on this?
I have worked as a petroleum engineer for almost 10 years now. Even though I work my tail off, I was just thinking today that I would do this as a hobby even if they didn't pay me for it (less hours, of course!).

To me the curriculum wasn't too bad. After my freshman year I almost switched to Econ - ironic, huh? First year classes were really boring, but after working offshore for a summer I was hooked.

Even though I am strong in math and sciences, it's the only engineering that I really could have stayed with as a career. So much of this job is qualitative and business driven, and it is pretty exciting to propose multi-million dollar projects and watch them come to fruition.

Anyway, best of luck! I hope you enjoy it as much as I have.
