I guess Pujols will sign for 30mil.

Is Prince going to be a free agent? I need to know these things if I'm going to be a Brewers fan.

yup. In '09 he signed a 2yr/18m contract.

The sole face of the franchise will be a jewish guy who designs affliction shirts.

its not so much the K's, but by the end of this deal he will be old and making a shite load.

if he was 3-4 years younger, i wouldnt have a problem with it

I just looked at his average season and he averages 193Ks per year so he'll actually earn about $130,000 every time he strikes out.

and check this out

quote:

The deal includes an option for a sixth year ($10M buyout), so he'll actually collect $135 million if the Phillies decide to let him go in 2017. Howard's new deal includes a limited no-trade clause, but it makes him one of the game's highest-paid players for the next half-decade. He'll turn 31 in November, so there's already some open concern about how his skill set will age as he progresses into his mid-30s.

RH trimmed the bellyfat, has improved upon his fielding 1st, and worked hard this past summer with Barry Bonds on his mental approach at the plate, his hole in swing on outside and vs Lefties. Thus far, this year he is being patient, has stayed back and been spraying breaking balls to opposite field.

This I like, though I worry he will taper off badly by age 35 and 36. I just wish they would've paid Cliff Lee for 1 to 3 years, letting go of Moyer & Blanton's paychecks instead.

They are packing the park every day, and selling merch..Phils tight owners have the dough to lock up Howard, Utley, Rollins, Werth, Hamels, Victorino, Halladay, etc..

Phils are gonna be a factor for years to come.

Fangraphs has him being called up this season, but before that happens, can you ask him to work on letting runners steal 70% of the time?

and from what I read, Boras will ask around $200 million for Prince.

now with those pieces. If they lock up all those guys the only thing thats going to happen in the years to come is the Phils will be hamstrung by old guys with big contracts.

By lock, I intend fat yet short contracts. Generally the Phils are a 3 yr deal franchise for even great pitchers like the one they signed Halladay to. They are not longterm dealers, not even for everyday players, this Howard deal is downright surprising by Phils standards.

Utley they will keep at whatever terms he wants when the time comes, but not even Rollins, Werth, Victorini, etc..can get best market deal matched by the Phils front office.

They didn't deal Lee for the hell of it, it was because they thought he would walk for too much money at the end of 2010. I believe Lee's agent wants a five year deal..Phils wanted him for three.

Phils of current are in the top 5 payrolls, but make no mistake, they generally don't toss around Yankee and Bosox type dough.

P.S. Those six thirtyish players you list , don't have much bodyfat, rarely have been hurt sans Utley's hip, and JRoll right now. Most all play at All-Star levels of current, and most aren't locked up longterm. Most are paid bargain rates per their production.

Obviously not all those guys will be locked up. Werth has made a name for himself in Philly and I think the Phils will let him walk when its contract time, Utley I can't see ever leaving Philly, Rollins may or may not depending on the money he looks for because hes getting older and seems to get knicked up quite a bit

The length makes this an unnecessary risk, and at 25 mill a yr the Phillies didn't get a discount for taking the gamble and locking him up two years before free agency. What was the point of this extension so early? Oh well the Phillies got money to blow.. must be nice.
