I remember drinking RC Cola out of the jars over there when I was a kid. I think I always got the fried shrimp.

I remember my one visit to the Airline store back in 1981. It was a Sunday morning after blowing all of our money drinking on Saturday night. We had enough money for grits, toast and coffee, and we were feeling miserable.

Anyway this family walks in, Mom, Dad, two kids and Grandma. They were dressed like they were going to, or more likely coming from, church. They ordered their food, and were waiting for it to be brought to the table when Grandma stood up.

She looked around the restaurant. She smiled at my friends and me revealing several missing and rotted teeth. We made the typical comments among ourselves that college students would about rednecks and were beginning to laugh. Then Grandma did the completely unexpected. She started scratching her crotch like it was infested with fire ants.

Suffice it to say the whole restaurant erupted in shock. Her family members just sat there as if nothing unusual was taking place. The restaurant emptied in less than five minutes. Never went back to Po' Folks, but I get a good laugh whenever reminded of the place. Thanks for the memories!!!

The one on the Westbank had a great brownie a la mode. I can't even remember the last time I've seen one of those places.

About 50 years before that. BTW the mid-bay bridge is also known as Danny Wuerffel Pkwy because he went to Niceville High School. The toll bridge costs cars $2 each way, unless you have a Sunpass ($1.50 each way) and bicyclists 10 cents each way, but the bicyclists are on the honor system. The locals have been trying to eliminate the toll for years because the bridge has paid for itself in tolls since its inception.

Niceville is a great place to live.
