Is Miles a good recruiter, or does LSU recruit itself?

In the post Saban era in which Les Miles found himself, does Miles really get the credit for being such a great recruiter, or is it just the fact that LSU had been established as a power under Saban and pretty much recruits itself? To me, Miles gets too much credit for being a great recruiter. I think he is a good recruiter in a GREAT situation. Louisiana is a talent rich state and LSU is the flagship university and the only major player in Div I football in the state.

We can criticize him on many things, but recruiting isn't one of them. He's been a great recruiter everywhere he's been.

does this question even need to be asked? the same could be said about Saban...both men recruited well and posted some serious numbers.

Don't downplay the part that DiNardo had in the talent turnaround. He was the one that began to stem the flow of Louisiana talent out of state. Saban and Miles have built on his foundation.
DiNardo wasn't a great coach by any means, but in all honesty he does deserve some credit for the talent remaining home.

With all that is set up here at LSU I think a coach would have to be incompetent not to be able to recruit a top-15 Class here in this day and age.

Top 10 IMHO is achievable with competence and talented assistants.

But you still need some skill and good recruiting to get in that Top 3 range, which - at least according to imperfect star rating systems etc. Miles has acchieved in half the years he's been here.

So I'll give the guy above average as a recruiter.

I have issues with him in other areas but not really this one.

me personally think saban recruits for his defensive schemes, and then gets the best talent that he can get at rb,ol next. miles on the other hand recurits a hell of a lot of dl,rb,db,wrs. then moves the dline to the oline.it should work cause most dlinemen are better athletes than olinemen but most of the time it doesnt go as well.he still is our coach so i will pull for him regardless.

Curley Hallman, Gerry DiNardo, Nick Saban and Les Miles all got highly ranked recruiting classes. Are they all great recruiters, or were some of them riding the name of LSU to highly ranked classes in spite of themselves?

LSU to a large extent recruits itself and Miles gets way too much credit.
