When did the fanbase take the poison pill?

Was it when Saban left, when Miles was hired, when we won the '07 NC, the 8-5 2008 season?
I'm just trying to figure out exactly when our fanbase went from a cohesive, positive support unit to a collection of jaded, miserable vultures with an absurd sense of entitlement.
I'll hang up and listen.

fans weren't happy in 2004 under a superior coach in a rebuilding year. hell they were pissed in 2002 also
but 2008 was a disaster and 2009 showed no improvement
all of the worries of miles from 2005-2007 (when we were stocked with saban talent) could not be overcome in 2008-2009 when all of saban's guys left and miles' building efforts were put on the field
horrible coaching hires by miles (formerly seen as a strength) really hurt his reputation. he's left only as a plus recruiter, but with an inability to hire a staff to develop the talent ranked highly by recruiting sites

This argument is a joke. Miles can recruit, does he develop talent and utilize it? Ummmm....

So you think it's a cumulative effect that only came to a head during the last two seasons?
Posted on 3/28/10 at 12:10 pm to Rickety Cricket
no there has been negativity since 2002 at least (i wasn't around for 2001 on here)
but there is a snowball effect with miles that is growing and growing (with good reason. 2 crap years in a row)

Well we won a title in his 3rd year. So talent has been recruited, been developed, and succeeded under him. Anyone who disagrees is an idiot.

i had to change seats at the game yesterday because some miserable frat guy in those pants where one leg is purple and the other is yellow wouldn't stop ranting about what was wrong on every play while inserting an F bomb every other word, and talking about how hammered he was gonna get at halftime.

Our fans are horrible. From their attitude to their general fair-weatherness... It makes me embarrassed to be an LSU alum sometimes.

Christmas Day 2004. At least on teh Rant. Split National Championship & Cherry Popper, Saban, working on his contract with Wayne Huizenga of the Miami Dolphins, instead of doing his job & recruiting for LSU.
At least on teh Rant. There were weepy pics of Saban & Huizenga at the airport.
They still haven't figured out yet, that Saban is not looking out for LSU's best interests.
6 years.

If you cannot see that Miles has lost his touch (luck) with LSU, then you are wearing purple and gold glasses. If he doesn't win the West this year, he will be fired. It doesn't matter how much money it takes to buy him out. He has consistently shown that he acts cool on the sideline but he is lacking in making quick decisions. He admittedly said that Shepard should have gotten more touches last year. We had the worst offense that LSU has had in years but yet the man didn't give the ALL-WORLD Shep hardly any touches or even let him try to complete a pass. Miles has the poison pill and he also has the anecdote (players.) He determines what LSU can do by how he coaches. Until he proves that 2007 wasn't a fluke, he will continue to slowly poison the fanbase. With all this being said, I will continue to root for the Tigers even though I know that a change in coaching is the only way to get us back to the top. It's kinda like our president.... I don't like him, but I love the USA. Now you can hang up.

Well, I think you have a large majority of fair weather fans. I also think you have a large percent of "new" fans. These fans of course or spoiled. A part of success I guess.
I just remember being at the Oregon St. Game after the 2003 championship. It was pouring rain, thunder and lightening, and the game was delayed. Nobody moved an inch. Now, Arkansas pulls within ten before halftime and the stadium starts to empty.
Success not only pulls in fake fans, but also causes real fans to be priced out of seats for more casual fans. Just my opinion though!

Stop hijacking my thread with your fricking anti-Miles ranting. There's unlimited other threads for that.

To say that recruiting is Miles' only strength is disingenuous and flat out wrong. He's well-liked by his players (which is different from recruiting) and his aggressive play calling (different from clock management skills) is very important (and was responsible for his national title). Going for it on 4th and 1 from the 35 yard line is huge.

There may be a more venom on the internet and it makes it easier for more people to express extreme viewpoints, but there is not much difference between the attitude of LSU fans today and back in the 80/90's's when I was in school and first started following LSU.
Back in the day the big posi-tiger/nega-tiger debate was over Dale Brown. Its all the same basic argument.

From what I've encountered out in the "real world" outside of TigerDroppings.com, it's actually worse. There are far many more positive people here than what I encounter every day on the phone talking with clients at work, at lunch, around the coffee pot in the office, and when talking to strangers about LSU during my free time at night on the weekends. For what people have stereotyped a "negatiger" to be on this board, I encounter 5 negatigers for every 1 positiger. And I talk to a large variety of people every day because of my work.
