I didn't bring Brady into the thread. Your anger is misplaced, sir.

Nothing wrong with those recruits, untested but highly regarded. However, a prior poster blamed LSU"S failure to make the big dance on John Brady. Trent has had two recruiting classe leading into this season andhas 6 PPG to show for it. Yes, he did not have much time after hbeing hired but taht applies to every new coach. Brady had signed better playrs at that point in time.

My first entry to this thread was in response to Dodd who posted Brady HC as the reason LSU didn't make the big dance.

I responded to your post stating that Stevenson would have started this year by noting that he probably would have, but he looked at the talent present in 2006 and signed elsewhere , though I am not certain LSU even offered. Both sides made the call based on talent on hand and not whether he could have started his senior season. Brady's only connection was that he was LSU coach in 2006, but that was not germane to the point I was making.

At the same stage in Brady's tenure he had signed:
Stromile Swift - beast
Jabari Smith - solid contributer
Lamont Roland - not good
Torris Bright - cancer
Brian Beshara - better than ludwig
Jermaine Williams - not good
Marques Ledoux - not good
Ronald Dupree - good
Brad Bridgewater - bust
Collis Temple III - good
Trent Johnson has signed:
Chris Bass - not good...at all
Eddie Ludwig - see 1 above
Aaron Dotson - see 2 above
Ralston Turner - hopefully good
Aaron Stringer - see 1 above
Jalen Courtney - see 2 above
K.C. Ross-Miller -....
Matt Derenbecker - no doubt in my mind he's gonna be the best player on our team next year

Brady left the cupboard nearly bare (except for the first year TJ was here). One doesn't just jump in and sign a bunch of topnotch 1A players. It's a process (a la Saban).
The reason Brady was fired was because the TV network kept trying to get him to quit picking boogers out of his nose during games, but he was addicted to it.

Top 50 rated PG Tommy Mason Griffin was committed to LSU until Johnson was hired.
Top 25 center Jmison Morgan was signed and requested a release when Johnson was hired.
Neither UCLA or Oklahoma made the tournament either. Morgan is garbage and there is no doubt in my mind that TMG would have never signed with LSU, regardless if Brady was here or not. He committed very early and blew up later on and had offers coming out of the woodwork. With the way LSU tanked Brady's last two years, TMG would have been a gone pecan.

What UCLA or OU did is irrelevant. They did not go 2-14 either.
Morgan may have developed bettr in a different syste. You can speculate whether Griffin would have signed, but he was committed when Brady left. So was Brandon Mitchell who later signed with ARkansas football. Delwan Graham was also signed before Brady left and is now gone.
Brady can't be responsible for what happened with those four playes who were either signed by or committed to LSU when he was terminated. Had Brady been retained he and Butch had other recruits that would have been signed. Trent Johnson had other options he chose not to take. Time will tell whether this was right for the long haul, but it is well past time to stop blaming Brady for whatever shortfalls there are in the program. Likewise he does not get credit for the success of 2009 other than for recruiting all but one of the players.

It's real easy for you to assume all of the best case scenarios regarding Brady would have played out.
Considering his feast or famine track record, more famine than feast, it is way more likely that the worst case scenarios would have played out.
Brandon Mitchell? Really? You're trying to give Brady some credit for recruiting a guy that is not even playing college basketball?
Morgan? Really? You want to bash Trent Johnson for his recruits lack of production, but you want to look into your crystal ball and predict that maybe the biggest bust in college basketball recruiting over the past 5 years would have somehow been a solid player had he been under Brady's tutelage?
Your complete lack of basketball knowledge outside of the Brady regime is astounding. I have given Brady many props for taking over the situation he did and giving LSU some success. I have never seen you chastise him one iota for the failures that he had.

I am not claiming everything would have turned out positive under Brady. One does not know that regarding any coach’s recruits. Sometimes a player will respond differently to the approach of different coaches. The only point I was making is there were well regarded recruits in place and a coaching staff with an above average recruiting score to complement those players. They would have signed more players they had been working for a few years and there would have been a more complete roster. The recruits may not have included Brandon Mitchell, but if he had signed would have likely been a better player than some of the players Trent was forced to play. Again, we don’t know for sure, but he was a more highly rated prospect.
The situation LSU found itself in this year was the responsibility of Trent Johnson, who has a different recruitment philosophy. That philosophy may prove to be better than Brady’s in the long run, but remains to be seen. If sacrificing a mediocre season at best for three or four good to great ones was necessary then it was the correct move.
If you really followed the program under Brady then you would not callously label it feast or famine. There were very concrete reasons for all but one down year in 2007 and you know it. Those reasons were every bit as valid as any that are given for this season under Johnson. Even if we concede that you have more credibility on this point than I am giving you the fact remains nine other SEC programs would like to have achieved what Brady and LSU did over his 10 plus years.

I have to agree with this.
I think it's actually funny that Miles gets no credit because "he won a championship with Saban's players", but Trent was able to take credit when he "won the SEC with Brady's players", but then a year later people blame Brady for Trent's down year. It really is a rantard double standard to the n't degree.

Why isn't the master recruiter, not at LSU? I mean with all of that talent he recruited here and his knowledge of the game with breaking the press and attacking zone offenses, you would think even after the Draconian Sanctions, that the Super recruiter would have never posted a losing season at LSU.
If someone didn't know LSU's history, they would see these players and assume that we were perrenial tourney participants.
