The entire staff, save for Renaudo and Ott. I love PM, but he put his eggs in the ZVR basket and had no real backup plan. Nor have we seen any real improvement from Bradshaw, Bertuccini, or Ross. PM is great, but the lack of great pitching is rediculous for a program like ours.

Just blame it on Les and be done with it. I know you want to.

ross and bradshaw, i agree, its time for them to step up, and i think PM's getting frustrated with them. bert is a one pitch, short relief guy who has done his job well more times than not

matulis is off to a good start, but now hes hurt, rittiner is off to a good start, but hes a frosh, and who knows how bourgeois will hold up throughout the year

obviously it early, but there are some concerning things out there

ross
AR has not done all that bad. He's had great outtings and usually only allows runs in 1 inning that he pictches. I think by the time SEC rolls around and the coaches take note if when he needs to be pulled due to tiredness he'll be a huge asset

Please go into more detail. I'm interested to see how a coach is supposed to know that a 6th round draft pick is going to receive 1st or supplemental round money? Coach Maineri has 11.7 scholarships for his entire team. He had a chance to get two great high school arms on campus, but at the last moment lost them both. He then signed Watkins and Bourgeios to replace them. Both of those guys have been good pick-ups minus one inning, and even that one inning doesn't diminish the good find.

well, only getting 5 innings out of him wont always cut it

PM said something a couple weeks ago about how he is ready to see ross become a reliable sec starter, and hes not quite there yet, imo

So the backup plan would have been some magic arm that would be better than the guys we have now.

I believe the Pirates made him an offer he couldn't refuse. His draft slot did not warrant that type of money, but anybody given that bonus has to take it. ZVR had to take that offer.

So, PM shouldn't be prepared for the worst case scenario? If not, he wasn't doing his job. Hey, I love PM but he dropped the ball here. This staff is very, very average.

If anyone would just look at this team without the P&G glasses, its good not great.Without Renaudo the pitching is good not great.I said in the thread last week that I don;t think this team will score runs consistently against good pitching.Omaha with this group would be remarkable.Just go enjoy the season.

As I stated before, Maineri picked up Watkins and Bourgeios to replace Von Rosenburg and Colvin. One is doing a great job at the lead off position, and the other is our team's #2 starter. Please tell me where in August of 2009 he could have found two better contributors to the 2010 team?

You mean there aren't tons of great SEC weekend type starters available two weeks before school starts?

Matulis is more than a mediocre arm. USA Today All American out of high school. Really good stuff. Pitched well his last time out. Unfortunately he is injured right now but he should be back soon.
Bourgeois and Mormann both are more than mediocre arms. Both were drafted out of JUCO (Morgan in the first 20 rounds) and have above average stuff.
