Never had BBQ in Memphis before. Here for work and in a time crunch so I had to go with the nearest place. River City BBQ has my order. I will be having a pork plate and half rack of ribs.
Here's hoping I chose wisely.
I will update shortly.

Pork sandwich with coleslaw on top was fantastic. Wish I wouldve gotten the jumbo sandwich. Vinegar sauce was very tastey. The ribs weren't "fall off the bone", they had a little texture to them, which is great IMO.
Overall, I am very pleased with my first Memphis BBQ. If I ever go back I will have to try central BBQ. I seem to recognize the name as being very good.

rendevous could not be more over-rated.

Agrred. I only get the rack of lamb there....ribs are not that good compared to other joints. And I'm talking about comparing their's to other dry ribs.

I like the atmosphere and the sausage and cheese plate at the Rendevous. The old Corkys off the loop is pretty good in a pinch. For whatever reason, it's better than all the other franchises, IMO...

quote:Agree that the Rendevous atmoshere, downstairs, is great. The dry ribs with sauce on the side at Corky's on Poplar are off the chain.

Went on a BBQ trifecta last weekend: Rendezvous, BBQ Shop, and Central BBQ. Best BBQ to us, really by far, was BBQ Shop on Madison. Unreal.

Haven't made it to the BBQ shop on Madison yet. Out of the others, I'll throw in a nod for Blues City Cafe. Also tried Marlowe's on EP Blvd. while there last weekend. Pretty good overall and if anyone you're with is into the Elvis thing, they have tons of EP stuff there. They'll also come pick you up for free in a huge Pink Cadillac if you want to go the trashy tourist route.
My thanks to whomever suggested Brother Juniper's for breakfast. It's a hugely popular breakfast place right by the University of Memphis. Well worth the trip.
