excuse me. i meant to say that if your friend activated the warranty and registered the console, the manufacturer is not liable for it breaking second hand. So, if you buy your friend's xbox and he already activated the warranty, you would have to get him to deal with customer service to get it fixed. For me, that was a big deal because I couldn't count on the guy off of craigslist to help me get it fixed if it were to break. if you know the guy well, it's probably not a big deal.

I'm not trying to be a dick, but legally speaking, no matter the degrees away from the original purchaser, the manufacturer is still liable for a manufacturing defect that is inherent in its design.
