back in the day there were also more nonconference weekends then exist now.

like bnap said, the season has been shortened..
ill admit that i dont want to see weekend series with LA teams facing each other.. i would rather not take any wins away from teams like ULM, ULL, SELA, etc..

it could also help them though.
playing teams like Cent and W/M and Brown though...thats pretty unappealing. We could do better.

3 games with Houston, Southern Miss, South Alabama etc would be nice

Hey Lester...Ill definately admit this. I would definately like to have an OOC schelule like TCU...who played a series against CSF...and then a weekend tourney with Rice, Mizzour, and Texas Tech...
But I still dont think it gets us better prepared for the SEC.
Im sorry if you had meant that tougher series would be more desirable for the fans...

give me a few reasons why playing better competition wouldnt prepare us better....please
what is the benefit of playing Centenary over a program from the big 10 or CUSA?

since no one bothered to read the chat i'll post some excerpts. this dude is about to cry i think.
i agree with his comment about it being silly saying lsu gets no respect, but he does it in such a bitch fashion. and his comment on fsu not moving up because "there just wasnt room" is pretty awesome logic.
quote:
John (Shreveport): When will teams at the top start get dropped for losing games. Virginia has 2 losses and Texas has 3 while LSU and Florida State are still undefeated but not getting much of a bump in their rankings Aaron Fitt: If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times: College baseball is about winning weekends. And in UVa.'s and Texas' cases, they haven't even lost midweek games. Put it this way: LSU has nothing on its resume to match what Virginia did opening weekend (winning a road series against East Carolina) or even what Texas has done the last two weeks(sweeping Stanford, beating Rice), though we dropped the Longhorns behind LSU after they lost that New Mexico series. Do you really think it's more impressive to sweep Centenary and William & Mary than to win two of three at East Carolina, or sweep Stanford? I'll grant you that Florida State's body of work has been very impressive, however -- there was just no room for the 'Noles to move up further.
quote:
Jeff (Washington DC): Aaron, Stand by your girl, no matter how ugly she may be. Losing on Friday night to Wright State doesn't equate to a dominating performance. If UVA beats LSU in the CWS final, I'll chug 10 gallons of your ACC kool-aid. Did you know?...Coach Mainieri is 93-20 since the April 20, 2008 tie to UGA. Considering SEC competition and 2 runs to the CWS in that period, that is a remarkable record. No credit for the LSU baseball program, but how about some credit for Coach Mainieri? Aaron Fitt: No credit for LSU? Really? They're ranked No. 2 out of 300 Division I baseball teams — and that's no credit. Gonna have to disagree with you there, Jeff. And again, show me one thing that LSU has done this year that's as impressive as winning a series on the road against East Carolina. So Virginia was upset on Friday; the Cavs still went 3-1 on the weekend. You don't get knocked out of the No. 1 spot in our rankings after going 3-1. If you don't like the way we do things, you are welcome to ignore our rankings and enjoy the bajillion other polls out there.

Again..where is the evidence of playing a series against a "so-called" tougher OOC team makes LSU better prepared for SEC play? I mean...the numbers dont support such a claim.
Id be all aboard if I saw some kinda trend that showed teams that play tougher OOC teams have better records in conference. i know I cant find those numbers for LSU.
Ill be glad to admit im wrong if you find a number of other SEC teams who did better in SEC play after playing a top 20 OOC team as opposed to when they didnt. I just dont believe it really matters.
Why do you think it matters for LSU?
They play in front of 11k+ on opening night no matter what team it is and more fans on other nites than almost any other team....isnt that enough pressure? I just dont get it.

his argument of LSU sweeping inferior teams not being as good as UVA winning 2/3 at ECU makes sense, except it means that UVA must also be held to the same standard.. and LSU doesnt have anything as bad on their resume as a loss to an inferior team..
i generally agree though, if you go 3-1 in a weekend, you should not drop.. whether or not you should be there in the first place is up for discussion though..

Virginia is a legit #1 team IMO..mostly because they return EVERYONE from last years impressive CWS team. And I dont think it's a coincidence their coach is a former assistant of PM's...

HAHAHA...dont you even follow college baseball? FSU always jumps out of the gate looking like world beaters and then..well...you know. Im not giving FSU ANY benefit of the doubt. They ritually tear the cover off the ball until it really matters...and then...nothing. Just once Id like them to prove me wrong.

i think UCLA has as much of a claim to number 1 as FSU.. They are 9-0 on the year with these results..
Southern 16-2
vs Bethune Cookman 10-3
Cal State Northridge 14-5
@ Long Beach State 10-1
Vanderbilt 9-2
vs USC 6-1
Nebraska 13-1
Nebraska 5-3
Nebraska 5-4
Southern 16-2
vs Bethune Cookman 10-3
Cal State Northridge 14-5
@ Long Beach State 10-1
Vanderbilt 9-2
vs USC 6-1
Nebraska 13-1
Nebraska 5-3
Nebraska 5-4

i follow it religiously. im not sure what fsu's past struggles (if you even call making it to the CWS often but never winning it struggles) have to do with this seasons polls.

Lets put it this way. I know FSU beat the crap out of Georgia at home. And I know they are undefeated. But they have done this ALOT in the past...and if you dont know this...then you havent followed college baseball alot.
Now...They play Virginia very soon, and we will get to find out who is for real. So you dont have to worry about Virginia being ranked so high. It's simple...best 2 out of 3 very very soon. I think Virginia comes out on top, cause i think they are the better team.

ok, thats great. our SEC record was the same as it was 10 years ago..
how about....

its obvious you dont get it.
is it better practice to go against Joe Blow Summit League with the SS that couldnt get any other scholarship offer, with the pitcher throwing a 82 MPH fastball or Johnny Appleseed from CUSA who fielded numerous offers from other school and actually has a chance to play pro ball??
You cant sit here and tell me its beneficial or "pressurized" to play against Brown University in front of a home crowd of 11K people.
Sure we may have won 20 games in the SEC last year. Whose to say we couldn't win 21 or 22?
Like I said, why settle? These teams suck. At least get one team in for the weekend before the SEC that is competitive on paper.

i just told you im well aware of fsu's past. it has no relevance on this season. how about suggesting one more time i dont follow college baseball. its really working for you.
