What trend is that? Only 5 black women have ever won an acting Oscar. Mo'nique delivered a helluva performance in precious. I've seen all 4 nominated films (Up in the Air had 2 nominees), and none of those performances came close to Mo'nique's.

Tell me about it. For the last 50 years, they've done nothing but give the best actress and supporting actress award to Sisters.
I think you mean sistas.

what does that mean?
I have only seen clips, but it looks like she was in fact awesome in this. However, her remarks came off as an insult to the other nominees to me. Like hers was clearly the best performance, and the only she wouldn't win would be politics. And she didn't thank the director, which is usually a no-no for actors. I just thought she came off as kinda smug and taking herself way too seriously.

Kiss my arse. It's totally political and you know it. Just admit it and we can get on with our lives.

That is exactly why I thought that the young star of Precious was a lock for best actress.

when she referenced that her win was based on performance and not politics she was speaking about the fact she didnt campaign for her win by doing endless talk show visits.
Like Halle Berry who all but called voters who wouldn't vote for her racist. I've hated that bitch ever since.

She already won the same awards at the Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild awards.
Seriously, look at her competition. Is there someone else's performance that was superior?
Anna Kendrick (Up In the Air)
Vera Farmiga (Up In the Air)
Penelope Cruz (Nine)
Maggie Gyllenhaal (Crazy Heart)
MG can't act/looks like ET, never heard of Nine therefore I assume it's largely forgettable, and Up in the Air was great, but moreso due to the script and George Clooney's performance. Mo'Nique's selection is unsurprising and warranted.

So was it political when Sandra Bullock beat Gabourey Sidibe for best actress?

Thank you. She won it on merit.
Katherine Bigalow, on the other hand, did not.
THAT was political.....

Would be a terrible assumption Leauxgan. You're better than that. Daniel Day-Lewis delivers in this musical and Cruz is pretty solid.

You are so wrong about this. The woman won in because of politics over the black guy? You even admitted you had never seen The Hurt Locker. It was miles better than Avatar. Avatar is not NEARLY as groundbreaking as you are making it out to be and the acting and plot were mediocre at best.
