No its comparable to about middle of the first round money.
Larry English, DE drafted 16th last year by SD, got a 5 year, $13.5m contract. Edwards will cost at least $6m a year. When details on Kampman's deal comes out, I think he's going to be in that $6m a year range. Edwards will get at LEAST that much.
I like the idea, but Edwards had 3 hosses next to him and he only had 10 sacks in his previous 26 starts.

Kampmann is going to the Jaguars as their primary pass rusher at RE like Will Smith, Dwight Freeney, John Abraham, etc... Kampmann was also considered one of the best in the league until last year's shitty situation for him. But what you have to understand is you don't have to get a bunch of sacks to be an impact player. Edwards has graded out as one of the top impact DE's since he came into the league. He had 3 sacks, 5 QB hits, and 6 Qb pressures in limited duty his rookie season, then had 5 sacks 13 QB hits and 29 QB pressures last year while seeing much more action. Then this year he jumped to 9 Sacks 22 QB hits and 35 QB pressures. I do agree with you, though, that it helps when you are part of the best front four in the NFL, but could you imagine what Edwards, Hargrove, Ellis, and Smith would look like as opposed to Mccray or one of the draft picks being the starter? Or God forbid, Charleston...
