Draft picks may present a risk but they also represent cheap labor. Unless you're picking in the top 10 in the draft, you can come away with a contract that is 50 to 70% the value of a veteran contract.

We wouldn't have to give Edwards top DE money, because he plays LE which isn't considered a premier pass rushing spot. Look at what Justin Tuck got in a similar time frame. And to the douche up there talking about how Edwards had 1 fluke game... you are a fricking idiot. He played great all year, and improved tremendously against the run. Jared Allen got his sacks, but Edwards frickin manhandled almost every RT he went against.

Look Gregg Williams said his specialty is dealing with personalities and that he gets way too much credit for x's and o's. Well for a guy who's only major flaw is his mouth and immaturity, it sounds to me like a match made in heaven.

Maybe; maybe not.

Edwards is a Restricted Free Agent and the Vikings could match any offer he gets. The history of Restrictive Free Agents shows that teams rarely go after them for several reasons. Teams don't want to spend the time and effort to come to contract terms with the player knowing his team can match it. It's like doing the heavy-lifting and not getting paid. Yes, you could incorporate a "poison pill" in the offer, but no team has done this since the Vikings/Seahawk fiasco 4 years ago.
