Just returned from seeing it. My wife hit me in the middle of it. I was asleep and snoring.

Hypnotized by the music or all the pretty colors?

Do you guys think it would be ok for an 8-year- old or is it just too freaky? I told my daughter I might take her in a few weeks. She already read the book (the Disney one based on the movie, not the Lewis Carroll version).

honestly, i thought it was quite terrible. i saw it in 3D and you could tell the movie was not made for 3D. there were many scenes that were blurry and caused my eyes to burn (something that never happens when i see 3D movies). also, the dialogue was very rushed and the story line just didn't make sense. i was happy it was a short movie.

johnny depp was entertaing like he always is, and helen bonham carter was good as usual. not one of Burton's best

It should be fine.

Dialogue can get a little confusing at times though.
**mild spoiler**
The only thing that pops to my head that some parents might draw a line is that there is some head chopping action. Nothing gory, and it isn't a human that it happens to.

the movie was definitely more geared towards the younger crowd than I anticipated. However, airing on the conservative side, I'm undecided if I'd take an 8 y/o girl though..probably depends on what movies she's seen in the past and how she's reacted to them

If she isn't afraid of action, it's completely fine. Someone stupidly brought their 1-2 year old and the baby cried the entire time because she was afraid of the monsters and action, but it's like DUH DON'T BRING YOUR 1-2 YEAR OLD TO THIS.
