Is this a sign of our coaching failures?

In regards to the NFL combine from DDon...
That's the equivalent of having the most players offered scholarships from a high school and not winning district..IMHO
It just sucks knowing the level of LSU talent and that talent being recognized by the top levels of the game.
No wonder all the anylists talk about how players aren't "coached up" in Baton Rouge.

With the NFL draft coming up next week, I think most of you will enjoy this article about the 329 players invited to the 2010 scouting combine which started yesterday. LSU, who finished 9-4 last season, had the most players invited (12) of any team and was one of four teams nationally that had 10 or more players invited.

And thanks for throwing back into rotation on the Rant. It's probably been almost 48 hours since this was discussed.

Well some team might as well have the most players at the combine. Why can't it be LSU?

This is further evidence of what many of us already knew, and some of us refuse to believe. The Sunshine Pumpers refuse to look at anything other than the overall W/L record.
Let's face it. LSU should be an elite football program. We have a tremendous talent base to work from in Louisiana, with no other real in state competition for that talent. We have first class facilities. We have a big home field edge due to the rabid crowd noise in Tiger Stadium. These factors all make up what should be the basis for an elite football program; however, this coaching staff in no way approaches elite status. In my estimation, it is, at best, an average staff.
LSU deserves better than an average staff. It all starts at the top. Miles is not good enough to coach this team. We deserve better.

The most doesn't mean the best. We won't have a single 1st rounder. Maybe 1 or 2 in the 2nd.
Chad messed up. He won't go until the 3rd.

WTF? Coaching makes it 'the best" And the NFL realizes that they will be coached there and recognizes LSU has the most players that CAN BE COACHED into NFL talent!
I'd rather have over TEN NFL players on our team than have 2 first rounders any day!

young qb play and young cb play left us with a bad season in 08.
had another first year starter this year, but older expercience cbs, defense was solid but the offense couldn't get out of its own way. and by the way, 9 wins and 2nd in the west is not that bad.
funny how les "cant develop talent," just has the most pro prospects at the combine. weird.

Who has the second most? USC and no one is talking about how Carroll is a bad coach.

Pete did do a poor job coaching his team this past year.
No doubt
Miles et al had the ingredients for a 10+ win season...talent and veteran leadership...they just can't cook!!

The combine is about potential, period. Only those players who have real potential to play in the NFL are participating. Invitations are handed out based upon size, speed, aptitude and attitude --- not how they were coached/developed in college. The NFL can develop their own talent. That's the primary purpose of the practice squad.
All this shows you is that LSU had more NFL prospects on their roster than any other school in the country. The fact that those players only managed to win half of their conference games over the last two years can tell you any number of things, not the least of which is that the team probably underachieved. I happen to believe that an underachieving team is usually a poorly coached team. But, that's just me.

So LJ, if you dont like the coaching staff, and its obvious you dont enjoy watching LSU play anymore, then why are you here other than to stir shite up? Leave all the "Sunshine Pumpers" alone and just go cheer on another team. Jump on someone elses bandwagon since you have evidently given up on ours.

To the contrary, I haven't given up on this team. Those who blindly support Les Miles are the ones who have given up -- given up all hope of LSU ever returning to the elite program it was just a few short years ago. I'm not here to "stir up" anything. Pointing out that Les Miles is a mediocre coach is simply stating an opinion (and a widely held opinion, at that). I think it's pretty sad, that guys like you can't understand the difference between blind homerism and legitimate criticism. I can criticize and still cheer. I can criticize and still support. Some of the biggest LSU fans I know think that Les Miles is the wrong coach for LSU football. Doesn't make them any less of a fan.
