You don't put together a class in less than a year's time generally (understandably there are exceptions). You build relationships generally with these kids in basketball early on high school. We're seeing Trent building these relationships with these 2010 guys for a couple years while at LSU now and we're seeing the benefits of that. Presumably he had those relationships with some coaches and players before he came to LSU. What connection did Calipari have with Kentucky recruiting when he left Memphis? I am not comparing Kentucky to LSU generally, but Johnson has had a whole year longer than Calipari to establish those contacts

I am not saying it was the wrong choice, it may prove to be billiant if the scholarships result in far better players and the Tigers are again successful. But, let's not claim he had no time to get established because that was disproven in 1998.
