My grandfather lives out in Ragley (north of Lake Charles) and he can't get CBS because direct tv doesn't offer the package where he lives. he is trying the digital antenna approach but i'm not sure if it's going to work or not. does anyone know another alternative to watching the game? web sites or anything?

They don't offer a local channel package out there. It's the weirdest thing ever but they he can't get cbs, nbc, fox, abc, or lpb.

He should be able to get local channels (ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox) from NYC or Los Angeles. I live in Deridder and wanted satelitte. But I ended up going with cable because of not being able to get local channels from Lake Charles.

Yeah unfortunately they don't offer cable out here. I'll try calling about the package you are talking about.

The digital antenna will work as long as the TV is fairly new.

TV has to have a digital tuner to work.

or digital converter

There is a digital antenna that you can purchase from best buy that will hook to your DirectTV box. It will put the local HD's right there in your menu. You should look into that.

I think the Stout Mart in Ragley has a big screen and they're having free corn dogs.

Check to see if TV has a digital tuner. If new, it does. Go to Lake Chuck to Conn's or wherever appliances are sold these days and get a converter box (if the TV does not have a tuner) and a digital antenna. Should work OK. The only thing I'd worry about is the strength of the over the air signal from Beaumont or Lafayette - no CBS affiliate in lake Charles.

Good luck!

I am in the same boat. No cable. DISH doesn't offer local channels in my area. Antenna does not work.

I go to a sports bar. FWIW.
