And this is a kid that wasn't highly recruited to start out with, in fact, many were wondering why he got an offer to begin with. I do feel comfortable with him being offered however, since he was at the LSU camp. Don't think that he would have been offered if he didn't show Miles something at that camp. Otherwise, I'd be scratching my head.

I have heard it's a concern

Quiet frankly if we don't get a surprise, I am ready to call the DL class a complete failure.

I don't know what the heck happened, but we lost Hardick, and Marsh, missed on Copeland, Smith, Ego, and now this Blackmon kid may not qualify, and is a diamond in the rough (hope) type of recruit as it is.. noone offered him but us

I love LSU...and support the coaches, but I give them an F...on this position of great need thus far.

I am ticked off

DE was pretty good with Maclin and Allen, as well as Bates on 3rd downs.

None of your DTs get me excited bc I don't see any of them as any different than the ones we signed last year.

What we need is SIZE, and none of the guys you list are above 270 lbs.

I'd rather sign the guys instate next year.

Who comes in from HS bigger than 270? I mean come on now..lets be realistic...these guys are still growing and developing..

If you can't get excited about Copeland or Marsh, then who can you get excited about?

Next year's class is full of Elite talent...but we need them all...

You really need an 8 man DL rotation...

There is 3 DTs next year already bigger than that.

Byron Jones this year should have been offered 6 months ago! He would have been on the top of my offer list. I agree that Marsh and Copeland are good prospects, but IMO Jones is a better compliment to what we signed last year bc he has nose tackle size.

Outside of Davenport, we don't have any size at DT right now, and neither of those guys would have changed that problem.

I will agree with you simply bc I think BJones was a total failure on the staff's part.

While we didn't knock it out of the park with DTs, I think we are fine at DT.

If you include Bennie Logan, I think we have 6 or 7 DT's.

We may be mortgaging space for other positions due to the crop next year.

THEN AGAIN......some recruiting expert is laughing at what I just wrote, so don't pay for my advice.

The plan was always OT.

I understand what you guys are saying and I agree...

just want to reiterate the original purpose of the thread: that apparently Dexter Blackmon is going to be of great importance to this class as he very well could be the only DT we sign and, because of this, it would be nice if he were eligible to enroll as there are grade concerns.

But if he can't, I think we will be okay, depthwise

Miles and Co. appear to have failed to address a glaring need.

DT is a HUGE concern heading into 2010.

Too many people on here don't understand the importance of "play makers" at each and every position and think just b/c we have "bodies" occupying schollies we will be ok.

Only time will tell if some of the RS can step up, but I have my doubts.

Certainly makes last year's great haul of Brockers, Davenport, Logan, Downs, and Montgomery much bigger.

All will play meaningful minutes this season IMO. Hopefully all on defense.
