Doing taxes online, filing married, but seperately. I can't go further because the form is telling me Louisiana is a community property state and can't use that option.
I can't use any other options: single, married:jointly, head of household.
what next?

didn't they get rid of any real benefit of filing separate but married??

You should be able to file a separate return despite living in a community property state. You just need to make sure that you and your spouse treats each item consistently with respect to whether it is a common or separate item.
The website you are using has probably made the arbitrary decision that it will not prepare separate returns for residents of community property states to avoid any returns being rejected for spouses treating items inconsistently. You should be able to work around this by purchasing one of the popular software packages.
Married filing jointly almost always results in less tax than married filing separately.
