I could be wrong but I believe the MAJORITY of LSU diehards pull for the saints too.
I dont believe the MAJORITY of saints diehards pull for LSU in the same manner.
Am I wrong here?
Sean Peyton said last night that the trophy was for the city of NOLA.
LSU's campaign in 2005 after/during Katrina was for the State of Louisiana.
Me personally, I am from nrth La.
For me and my family its always been about LSU.
I care more about the spring game and recruiting than I do the superbowl or NFC CG.
Im glad to see the saints suceed..... however, as far as Im concerned the New Orleans Saints will always take a back seat to LSU.

I did not grow up a Saints fan, they were blacked out so much we always got the Cowboys instead.
I've enjoyed watching them the past few years though when you finally had a coach and QB that were competent.

Pretty much everyone I know is an LSU fan and they all have different NFL teams.

Didn't he say it's for the city of New Orleans then moments later say it's for the state of Louisiana?

I don't understand this thinking. When the Colts won the Super Bowl they didn't say this is for the people of Indiana. When the Steelers won they didn't say this is for the people of Pennsylvania.
Who cares if he said New Orleans instead of Louisiana?

All year long, the Saints fans have been LOUD...the whole game. If the defense gave up a big play, then they just cheered louder the next play. If the Saints got behind, they just picked up the enthusiasm.
If LSU would give up a big play, the fans would get pissed, sit down, bitch to their neighbor about firing the coaches, and then probably leave at halftime.
The Saints fans this year at the games have been a model as to how LSU fans should be (and used to be, in my opinion). Always supporting the team, even when things aren't going their way. Trusting the players to make plays...not booing when something happens you don't like. I wish our fanbase would get back to how the Saints fans are now.

My allegiance is Totally with LSU. However I have been a Saints fan since early 90's. The Saints wins are not as good and losses are not as hard as with Lsu for me. I completely agree that most LSU fans are fans of the Saints as well but for some reason the fans with allegiance to the Saints feel they need to downgrade LSU as much as possible. Don't get it?

Except in Ruston and Lafayette

I grew up right outside of NOLA and wasa Saints fans. Had the prerequisite Letterman style kid's jacket with the vinyl gold sleeve and black fleece vest dealio which was all the rage in the late 70's and early 80's...with matching knit cap, etc.
When I moved to Lafayette to go to school in '88, I quit following the Saints in the same way. It wasn't that I pulled against them, or was pulling for anyone else, it's that I got more involved with LSU footbll and I saw the Saints (and the rest of the NFL) as simply a hodge podge of former college players...many of whom I didn't like because of who they played for in relation to LSU. I'm still like that to this day...pulling for individual LSU players and simply enjoying good, entertaining football when I tune in to NFL games.
But this year with the Saints has been fun. Both because THEY have been the fun team to watch this year, and because deep down there still is something in me that wishes the Saints could win.
So I'm pulling for the Saints...but my first love will always be LSU.

Louisiana State University Tigers
New Orleans Saints
Yep, that makes sense. I could see if it were the Baton Rouge Tigers then there might be a problem.

If the Saints coaches were making bone head calls all year that cost games, the fans wouldn't have been the same.

I agree, and to your comments on Lsu fans. That comes with having the house divided on the head coach. It has nothing to do with being a good fan or over expectations or just simply not being behind the team. I would say 70% of the fanbase is not behind the head coach which causes this reaction. If the fan base was behind the coach and the same exact events played out it would be a different reaction from the fans. My opinion but it is a strong one.

quote:Dude, please dont try to pretend that Saints fans arent negative. Of course they're positive this year, as well they should be. But this organization is only a few years removed from fans with bags on their heads.

The OP is comparing fanbases during a year that one team grossly underachieved and looked piss-poor doing so, and the other is in the Superbowl. Let them both have a down year, then compare.

Are you trying to prove you're a fricking idiot? The saints are going to the superbowl. The tigers are trying to get back into the hunt for a conference championship. I have never seen a person wear a paper bag over their head in tiger stadium. This used to be part of the uniform in the dome. Benson used to require security. The bitching at Tiger fans is getting entirely too gay on this site.

Ok...let me clarify. At the Saints games, the fans are loud and going apeshit crazy on EVERY defensive play. At LSU games, it used to be that way, but isn't anymore. Tiger Stadium is just a shell of what the Dome has been this year as far as crowd noise and fan participation.

Saints bring LA together... greatest thing that can happen for the state.

Change the dates forward a decade and this is my thoughts exactly

If you don't think LSU could have been better this year, you don't know much about football....It's hard to have the stadium as loud as it could be when everyone in the stands knows the team COULD/SHOULD be better.
