300-400 instructors getting let go and Brick gets a raise? Worst year in a long time by our DL and he gets a raise. WOW

No one is "getting let go" as of now. It is a contingency plan "IF" the budget cuts are required. The law requires that you give instructors 12 month notice of any impending personnel action. So, to cover the bases, they are sending letters saying that they cannot give complete guarantee that they will have jobs if the cuts are required as currently projected. Athletics gave $6 million to academics last year and are self supporting and not a part of the budget. How about questioning why they are turning Tower Drive into an ice skating rink for the "Winter Wonderland" event to be held on campus? How about saving that money for other more pertinent needs.

The football program pays for itself unlike instructors. Different situation.

Professors bring in millions of dollars in research grants. LSU is a great school on the rise academically and its professors will be brining in millions more in the coming years. The potential for dollars earned in the research and academic world blow football money out of the water at big time academic institutions. Research expenditures nation wide been on the rise during the economic downturn. Four universities this year earned over a billion dollars in research for the first time in history.

Too see LSU take a step back like this is a big deal in the short term. As the state gets its budget back things should turn around. But you need professors to bring in grant money.

Most people know the football program is self-sustaining but, it doesn't change the fact that politically it looks bad that you have employee's who preside over mediocrity getting raises and those possibly doing very well at their jobs potentially losing their income. I know you say free market here but, the truth is if miles and his gang were ceo's they wouldn't be getting these bonuses for sucking ball sack at their jobs. Oh wait....
