How important are the first 5 minutes of this football game?

if the Saints come out smoking and score a touchdown to start the game and jump out 7-0 and get the Dome rocking...
as compared to if the Cards jump out to an early lead on us the same way the Cowboys did

I have been saying this since the playoffs started. I think our first 2 series will speak volumes about which team is showing up for the playoffs.

I wouldn't make it that clear cut. If it's a close game... the last 5 minutes would be more important. BUt I think the Saints have the opportunity to jump all over arizona and take the life out of them early... it could be an easy win if so.

Or like how the almighty arizona jumped out to a double digit lead... only to have it lost and go into OT.

Thanks to tigerguy for the link....just wanted to put this in a different thread to show the great intelligence of a frogman.

Sure... let me state my opinion again very clearly. Saints will beat Arizona. I'll admit i was wrong if I am which I won't be.

To beat the Cardinals the Saints are going to need to play all 60 minutes to the best of their ability.
Screw this five minutes shite. There is no such thing as cruise control for the Saints from here until they play their last game. It's balls to the wall for hopefully 12 more quarters of action.

The first five minutes of a game are important in that without them, you would only have a 55 minute game. Look at this past year. Has the first five minutes determined the outcome of the game? If so, I am hard put to tell you which one because we have never scored all our points, or allowed all the other team points in a five minute span.
Players understand the game is 60 minutes; the fans tend to get high or flat in the first five. A game has an ebb and flow that carries highs and lows. The great teams will create the highs, the good teams will counter the lows, the average teams will flow with them.
(I apologize for not underlining any sarcasm in the above statement.

Probably not very. Two high powered offenses with questionable defenses, I'd want a 3 possesion lead with 5 minutes left before I felt safe.
