And that might be the understatement of the year.

When you watch the AAA game, I have a real hard time seeing where the experts pull their ratings from. I look at a kid like Prater against a good db, and there was little separation, and on the few chances he got to make a play - he did not. Sure it is one game against big time players... but shouldn't a true 5 star dude look extraordinary in some way?

Then you look at a kid like S. Ware - and wow. That kid is the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. Even though he he seems to be a better RB than Lattimore - the stars and rankings are not in alignment on that. Maybe playing QB in Highschool hurt SW's rankings... but the dude reminds me of Emmitt freaking Smith. He does not have the high top end speed that some no-nothings fall in love with (Ask Al Davis how that fast first rounder is working out for him...) But I am convinced that SW is the best running back in this class... Even over that kid from Temple that all y'all have such wood over.

Last, how can a kid like that Marcoux not be higher than a 1 star???? He looked to be the best of all the QBs at the AAA game by a long shot. But what do I know, I have no recruiting site, and no mythical stars to hand out.

This is why teams like Utah and Boise State can compete... and even dominate a team like Alabama. Sure the coaches and scheme are good - but those 2 star players can be every bit as good as a 5 star guy with the right development and want.

Agreed, the stars are great for off season fun but more often than not they aren't accurate. Brandon Lafell was a 3 star. Its all about getting the right kid and putting him in a position to succeed.

For every three star there is that has had a good career there are three 5* that have also. Recruiting rankings are correlated to winning championships. Look at the top 10 and tell me who's in it. That's all you need to know.

Yeah, it would be horrible to have 15 five star recruits in our class.

Didn't they say he was going to Dartmouth and only got to play in the game because he won some kind of a reality show?

Yeah, watching one all star game on TV = studying film on players for many year, interviewing coaches etc.

I love how people think if 100% of the 5* don't pan out it shows the rankings are wrong.

yea, ranking players is not a science. also, ranking a player in high school does not necessarily translate to his worth as a player in college. it is a different game. overall, it is one tool and one only. a players measurables and coaches evaluation (high school and the college looking at him) are also important. the stats reveal 5 stars have a better chance to succeed in college than 4 stars and so forth, but the difference isn't as marked as you would think. also, things like grades, character and desire are very important. some kids are winners and some just don't have that heart. recruiting is a crapshoot. however, teams that sign mostly 4 and 5 star guys are generally better than teams that sign mostly 3 star and 2 star guys.
