Aaron Brooks is way better
He was a great QB at Virginia
He was a pro bowler in the NFL
He was a a pretty decent QB
Not great but he was decent

well, if the popular opinion is that no black QB will ever win the big one, everyone just go ahead and say that. we did win the SECCG with all white qb's. never sniffed it with Jamarcus, or even with Rohan before Mauck replaced him in the actual champ. game, and 2 years later.
is that the consensus?
there is some merit to that in the pros, possibly in the college ranks....
I think Vince Young and Chris Leak won the big ones.
And if you count Mauck replacing Rohan wouldn't you also count RP replacing Flynn?

rage during JR's 2006 campaign
I remember those days as well.
Some of these guys may want to pull up our last national championship QB stats for the year and compare Jefferson to that. Same offensive system, similar passing numbers, but none of the rushing production.
LSU's whole offense this season was Jefferson. How it got to that is on the coaching staff. But you take him away and you have close games against LA Tech.
4 times he faced a deficit in the 4th qtr and 3 of those times he gave you a lead (Penn St, GA, Ark). The other time was the ole miss game when he threw a 25 yd td with about a minute left in the game and had the ball on the 2yd line for a 2pt conversion to tie.
Go back and take a hard look at this season. Head to head he outplayed a whole slew of revered qb's (Locker, Mallet, Snead, Clark).
Last year he's a true freshman with a 50% completion rate and 5.4 ypa who only threw on the rollout. Now he's a 61% completion rate with a 7.3 ypa from the spread.
No courage and not improving. please.

I was thinking Jevan Snead was more like Aaron Brooks. One good year and then.....

One of his best games was his first. Also, he is good for one or two drives a game. No one is saying he is awful, but for LSU to challenge for the SEC he has to improve.

So what does the topic of this thread imply? No shyt he has to improve he is only a sophomore but along with that the oline, the running game and receivers have to be more reliable. Oh and the playcalling.

Implies he is comparable to Aaron Brooks who was servicable for about a year. You can draw your own conclusions to the rest.
JJ didn't improve thru the year, lacks leadership and has some habits that limit the offense. If he can improve on those, he will break the Aaron Brooks mold next year. As stated, I see him as more of a Marcus Randle than Brooks. Neither were awful, but both had limitations. Brooks was actually a very good college QB.

We undoubtedly know JJ needs to improve. What true sophomore or RS Junior can we point to that we can point to as a model of improvent as this season progressed? I think he held up well when fairly compared to his peers. He wasn't an interception machine like snead, lee or harris. He led us to a 9-4 season in his sophomore year the same as the great tim tebow. I think he is lights out next year. If not then,,,,Next.

Please don't tell me you are trying to use actual statistical evidence to support your logic on the Rant, which I am convinced, takes pride in its stubborn refusal to accept anything that is remotely logical.

don't you think that if we had any semblance of a run game it would help.
Take a look at what Saban has gotten out of McElroy. He's posting similar numbers to Jefferson. The difference is about 1500 yards of rushing.
The kid ain't Joe Montana but we've seen that there is a recipe to winning SEC championships and BCS titles. We did it three years ago with a Strong run game, defense, and turnover margin.
If he has to do it on his own, then the results won't be good. He doesn't have that spectacular multi-dimensional skill set and I've only seen 3 'superman' type QBs who got to the Championship (Vick, V Young, and Tebow) by putting the team on their back.

What should he have done differently in your opinion to show improvement?
See thats the thing, all you clowns say he did nothing to improve, but exactly what did he not improve on?
He took a lot of flak for taking too deep of a drop and getting sacked. Did you watch Friday's game? He did a fantastic job of stepping up and avoiding pressure.
I guess he should have made his wrs (Lafell against Ole Miss) and TT (against Penn St) catch the ball. I guess that would have helped huh?
I guess he should have made the runningbacks more effective by making his o-line not suck. I guess that would have helped right?
Clearly all his fault.
There is no reason why a 19 year old quarterback should not be able to step into the SEC with 3-4 plays in his mind, read the defense, make audibles at the line, and pick apart the defense. This is commonplace for a 19 year old true sophomore qb in college football isn't it?

You can add all the variables in the world and it will not change JJ's propensities. A running game will help LSU's offense simply because the offense will not have to rely on JJ nearly as much. No brainer. For the LSU offense to improve, they will have to rely LESS on JJ.

It's alot easier to defense a team when they are one dimensional. I think better wording is LSU has to be more balanced on Offense for JJ to be sufficient. Wouldn't hurt if receivers caught the ball either.

JJ is worse at this point of comparable "development". What is up with the Icons???

Doug Williams did win a Super Bowl; and the prejudice thing is coming from those that bring that subject up.

What are his propensities?
Most are listed in various threads.
Staring down recievers
Holding onto the football
Dropping too deep for protection
Not throwing to receivers in stride.
Inconsistent, will give you 1-2 good drives a game
Not a field leader, manager.
There are more, these are the most glaring. If JJ can correct these, he will be a fine QB. JJ does some things well, rolling out and having the option of run/pass. Unfortunately the LSU staff doesn't like to do things that work well.
