Kinda hard to argue why KU fans would be pissed. If you were attempting to become a major factor in a big-time conference and this was a nameless person, would you want to hire a coach with these stats:
2006: 2-10 (1-7 in MAC)
2007: 5-7 (5-3 in MAC)
2008: 8-6 (5-3 in MAC)
2009: 5-7 (3-5 in MAC)
Overall: 20-30
I understand going after a young coach with potential to breathe some life into a program, but it's a big gamble.

Why Should Kansas Fire Turner?
Typically when a program fires a two-time Coach of the Year, a big name hire can be expected. Typically if a coach can't win in the MAC, they won't succeed in the BigXII. Well, the Jayhawks thought otherwise. How about a coach with a 20-30 overall record?
With all the great names out there for hire, Lew(ser) Perkins settled for a cheap, easy pick. This was a lazy attempt at a national head coaching search. If this administration wants to become a national program, make a national hire!
You can't predict failure, but anyone can see this train-wreck coming.

These comments are odd since Auburn received so much crap for not hiring the guy...

KU fans are just delusional about their place in the world. Turner Gill is an excellent hire.

Buffalo has never won more than 3 games in D1A without Gill and only won 2 or more 3 times.

These comments you're referring to, are they being posted by the exact same people who gave Auburn "so much crap?" Didn't think so. And FWIW, I give Auburn crap for just being Auburn.

a LOT will depend on what assisstants he is able to hire.

I have a friend that is a huge KU fan. He said that it is actually a buffalo fan that changed the content of the site after Gill left. Not sure if he is correct or not, but that is what he told me.
And no I don't feel like looking it up to see if it is true.

Winning 20 games at Buffalo is nearly impossible.
Gill is a good coach.

I never doubted the guys ability...but I didn't think he was anymore deserving of the job than Chizik...

You're still Kansas. You will never make a big name hire
