If we lose to Penn State is Crowton the fall guy?

The only reason Crowton hasn't been fired yet is because he hasn't committed any NCAA violations.
That's the only way coaches get fired at LSU.
By allowing Crowto to stay through the bowl, he can save face by taking another job rather than being pushed.

this has been my guess all along...
giving him time 'till after the Bowl Game to accept a job...
but hell who knows, we may have him another year.

Les hired Billy Gonzales on Crowton & Stud's recommendation. Those guys aren't going anywhere.

If Les is keeping Crowton for insurance, it would be for next season (if he fires crowton this year, there will be no one left to fire after 2010).
However, even that's too consipiracy theory for me. Not sure adults actually do that kind of thing. Les wants to win more than anyone.

Crowton is staying put at LSU because he is one of the best offensive coordinators in collage football.
What part of “our o-line sucked arse this year don’t you stupid people understand”

you would think "one of the best offensive coordinators in college football" would be able to scheme around a pourus offensive line.

No one is disputing Crowton's Genius. There are just 106 or so smarter geniuses doing what he is doing.
This does have the same vibe as the Co-DC situation though. It would be hard to install a gameplan with a new OC for a bowl game. Crowton may be here for that reason alone.

For one year, anyway.

Well lets just say Miles, for his own sake, better not do anything stupid to lose the game.

LSU is not going to let Miles cut Crowton with $800K left on his contract and then turn around and give out another $1M for a new coordinator. My guess is they told him, you hired hime, we have to pay for him, make it work!

I would like to see Crowton go also, but I can see Les' reasoning for keeping him.
Crowton managed to field a decent O last year despite a liability at QB.
This year, QB was still a weakness and the Oline was lousy.
To me, it still looks like LSU doesnt know what it wants to do on O, and you cant tell me some of that isnt on Les. After all, we had all the pieces in place to run a good wildcat scheme, but Les said he wouldnt commit to it in case Shep got hurt. Typical Les logic.
My concern is that you are now adding another chef to the kitchen with Gonzales.
But to the point of the thread, I dont think Les would keep an assistant to buy time. He may not be what we hope for from an HC, but he is an honorable guy.

LSU can handle 1.8 million for a change. i highly doubt money is really a issue if we want change. Its more likely that some are ok with not being elite and good is just enough for them

I think Les keeps Crowton thru the bowl game and then gets rid of him. I dont think as insurance, but more as loyalty to Crowton. This is my gut feel, and Im sticking with it.

Was the O line bad yes, but it is really hard to block 8 men with 5. Maybe if we had an offensive coordinator that wasn't so incredibly predictable the defenses we play wouldn't be able to stack the box on us all the time.
