One problem with a playoff

One thing everyone seems to forget is that if we were to do a playoff, one of the weeks a team would have to prepare for a game, would fall during a team's finals week. I'm sure most student-athletes would agree that this would not be an ideal situation. So, I am all for a playoff as long as it doesn't effect a student-athletes ability to properly prepare for the most important week of the academic semester.

Yet that's not an issue for I-AA, Division II, Division III (which is non-scholarship...), and NAIA football. And it's not a problem for basketball or baseball, or for football schools that are on the quarter system.

I'm just saying that this is something that we don't think about. A student-athlete is a student first and they probably enjoy not having to worry about preparing for a game and studying for finals at the same time.

Sorry but this hasn't been the case for quite some time now.

The solution is simple. Extend the season earlier by one week in August. That gets one week.
The NC is pretty much a week after the BCS games so there's already a 2 week playoff that can be built on that schedule.
Hold the first round of the 8 team playoff on the first Saturday in December. Losers go to bowls and the 4 winners have a month to prepare for a 2 week 4 team playoff.
There you go.
