Big minutes for Ludwig

He didn’t score and barely registered on the stat with one rebound. But there was a reason why freshman forward Eddie Ludwig played a season-high 16 minutes for LSU against ULL, including much of the second half.

“He does a lot of little things that are big things that go unnoticed,” head coach Trent Johnson said. “He doesn’t score or do any flashy plays, but he gets his hands on loose balls and passes and catches. We can run offense through him at the four and allow Tasmin to stay at the three.”

LSU Notebook

I've been critical of him, as well. Obviously TJ sees something in him to warrant minutes. Hopefully this year will pay off for him and he can be a solid player down the road.

Nice. So, now we are recruiting kids that "don't score".

He's a freshman. I can provide a long list of players that didn't play or score as freshmen (and beyond) that were All-Conference and first-round draft picks. (Geert Hammink, for one)

The truth is that he should have been redshirted. Unfortunately, LSU doesn't have that luxury this year.

He also sets excellent ball screens and he tipped like 5 or 6 rebounds to Storm Warren and a few others the other night. He may not be SEC ready, but he will be valuable to this team in the next few years.

I think his biggest problem is that he is not a post-up player and needs to be on a wing but cant play there cuz of our lack of size. Could be wrong but thats what I think.

Ludwig is not as bad as morons on this board make him out to be. He is going to develop into a very nice role player IMHO. I would be willing to bet that the majority of people bashing him have not even been to a game yet.

I'm not bashing him. It's just that in an ideal situation, the kid would not be playing this many minutes at this point in his career. But it wouldn't surprise me if he developed into a good role player in a year or two.

He's just not ready to compete in the SEC.

Agreed, it's not his fault he was forced into action right off the bat.

Ludwig is pretty awful. Plus, he suffers from gingervitis, so he's an easy target.

Honestly, there were better big men in the state last year to sign than him. He was a product of too much hype

Thank you to all the coaches out there that are currently coaching at the college level. Can we evaluate this guy at the end of his senior year. This guy is a true freshman.

have ppl been "bashing" the guy? maybe in the ull in-game thread? i haven't seen that, although i have posted wondering what they see in him.

i'm no sec coach, i'll give tj the benefit of the doubt on a true frsh obviously, but the guy doesn't seem too promising off the bat.

and no, "tipping rebounds to storm" and "getting his hands on loose passes" doesn't count as promising signs.

that said, i hope things work out well for him on our squad.

I think he's fundamentally sound, but he's too soft and can't catch/grab the damn ball! Good high school player, and a potential to be a decent college player if he gets stronger. He'll never be more than a 15 minute guy in the SEC though, that is unless he starts shooting lights out from 3 land. That's why I thought he was recruited, to be a big guy that can shoot.FAIL

So players are exempt from criticism until the end of their senior season?

Get that weak sauce outta here

Name one.

and don't say Kourtney Roberson. He's the only other Louisiana player over 6-6 that signed with a BCS-level school (Texas A&M) last year. He didn't make his grades and is at a prep school.

Ludwig dominated him head-to-head anyway. See link:
