IF RP would have played his time out here, things would have been better on the field (assuming he could have controlled himself - big assumption). I put some of the blame for the drop off the past two years on that, but the rest falls squarely on the coaches. A Jr. QB leaving the team shouldn't set you back this way if you recruit and develop like you should.

BIG DIFFERENCE!!! AND YES HE IS!!! ALSO NOT A QB.

Thats NOT the point!! RP wasn't going to amount to anything at LSU cause he DIDN'T want to. He was too busy getting into trouble. ENOUGH SAID!!!!

Care to elaborate?
People always say that RP did bad stuff that no one knew about and was swept under the rug to protect his reputation, but then they never say what exactly he did.

dude you are way off base on RP. he was a incredible talent out of high school. by the way jarret lee was rated very high by rivals and other recruiting sites when he was a senior in high school. recruiting is not a perfect science. jarret lee was thrown to the wolves last year and every one of you know this. he was simply not prepared mentally to handle a sec schedule.

This year? LSU would be 10-2. Not sure about last year, would still have to have had to overcome that defense (LSU;s)
Don't let the scores of the Ole Miss, Alabama and UF games this year fool you. LSU was whipped on both sides of the ball all game. Pretty sure LSU scoring more pts vs Bama and UF would have led to a scoring war. Pretty sure LSU would have beat Ole Miss though.

I am so tired of the conjecture, supposition concerning something that is just a woulda, coulda, didn't ....

I don't disagree with your record prediction, but it would have been a much cleaner 10-2. We would have beat the teams that we were expected to beat much more convincingly.
Nobody will ever know, but I feel confident that RP was a MUCH bigger threat than JL or JJ as frosh.

AGAINST WHO??? LOOK I wish the guy the best of luck, BUT He wasn't a BIG TIME PLAYER, OR he wouldn't have gotten kicked OFF the team.
Yes he would and he was sonnyboy. No player is bigger than the team sonnyboy.

agreed. this year and last would have been better had RP been able to keep his head out of his a**.
also proves LM has done a job holding this team together

Actually I was referring to the fact that Randy Moss went to FSU. He was booted from the team and THEN went to Marshall. Do you know how bad you have to frick up for Bobby Bowden to kick you off the team? Anyway he went to Marshall and now is considered a top 5 all time receiver. Kids frick up, shite happens.

Les had to let him go. He would have let Peterson go after all of that shite peej. You lose institutional control over a team if you don't.

By far the best point in this discussion: Acta est fabula, plaudite! = The play is over, applaud!

Wasn't he recruited to go to notre dame first, but gone in a bad fight at school so notre dame wouldn't take him?
My uncle was roommates with Bobby Bowden in college and close friends to this day. I remember him telling me about randy moss and how Bobby knew he would be the best reciever he ever had.

Such a true statement.

Truthfully, Randy Moss had committed to Notre Dame. He got in a fight in high school and his offer was pulled by ND. He then transferred to FSU. He got caught with marijuana and got kicked off the team at FSU.
Perrilloux had the potential to be an All-American. I remember watching videos of him in high school. I think he accounted for 6-7 TDs in one game in high school. If he would have focused on football, he could have been a first round draft pick. He could have been very similiar to Vince Young. Who knows how he would have faired in Crowton's system though. I want to see what Lee and Jefferson can do with a better coordinator. They might actual develop.

While we're playing the "RP Effect" game, I'll throw this out there. Say RP ends up going to Texas, which was legit. Colt McCoy probably comes here and we love him forever and ever. This also has an effect on Jevan Snead, he transfered from Texas to Ole Piss for playing time. Assuming RP would still be himself in Austin, Snead takes over as QB in Texas, wonder what kind of QB he could have been there... anything else we can tinker with?
Isn't this game fun!

We discuss many things of this forum. Our lack of similar success from recent years can be blamed on multiple entities. The HC, the DC, the OC, other staff, the players, attrition, and on and on we go. I hate to rehash a commonly discussed topic, but it goes without saying that the departure of RP hurt more than most are willing to admit. The question arises though, would RP have continued to hurt this program with his antics. Theoretically speaking though, lets say RP kept a clean slate, we would all agree LSU would have been in contention for a Natl title potentially the last two years, Furthermore:
My thoughts on the RP effect?
We all knew the compromise made with kicking him off the team (a great choice by the way, No one player is bigger than the program). But nonetheless the compromise was one we would still have to suffer through. I hear conjecture as to how far one player can set a team back. Well look at USC without Sanchez this year, Look at Oklahoma losing Bradford, Watch Florida after Tebow. If that one player is the QB and potentially a great QB, well losing THAT one player WILL set a team back. How good are the Saints without Brees, the Colts without Manning. Its an intersting discussion, but I doubt any team would be as successful.
The jury: We were worse off without RP these past two years, easily. But, we will be better off the next two years because of his departure. Instead of JL or JJ starting there first games next year, they now have experience and hopefully that will pay off huge dividends for one of them. LSU will have great years, good years, mediocre years, and yes unfortunately we will probably have bad years. Its the way of sports. We should try harder to enjoy the good times, it will probably not last forever. But our support of this team as true fans should be something that is forever. Geaux Tigers.

definitely bitter/sweet.
the sweet part for me was that i got to see RP play Jesuit in the state playoffs whatever year that was. It was the greatest performance by a single player ive ever seen in person (HS, college, or Pro). i dont know his stats but it was a one man show. it got even better when i realized he's going to be a tiger. and as they say, the rest is history

It is amazing we even got a QB recruit the caliber of RP with the coaching change. We also weren't the place to go with a depth chart of JR, Flynn, an RP. Why would any top flight recruit want to come here.
Lee is a bust and Jefferson is young. So at worst we have a depth chart of Lee and Jefferson behind RP. Lee had a red shirt year on the depth chart too. So a combination of a bust prospect on the depth chart and having to kick RP off the team set our offense back.
We also were unlucky with the poor coaching promotion and the young secondary of 2008 being worse than expected. Some times shite just doesn't work out and it really isn't anyone's fault.
I feel pretty confident we would have beat Bama had we not had all the injuries. So if we would have had RP the last two years we would have beat Bama. He probably would have created a negative environment off the field though and that is why he was kicked off.
