Are LSU fans worse than Bama fans?

I hate Bama for one single reason: the arrogance of the fanbase. Despite the fact that Bama had become a total laughingstock in the past 10 years (strip clubs, violations, etc.) & that all they've managed under Saban (until this year?) is a bowl win in Shreveport, they go on and on and on about their tradition & class & domination & dynasty. Its only gotten worse since Saban has been there. They really believe that there is a natural order in the SEC & they, by right, belong at the top, all evidence to the contrary. For that one reason, I never ever want that program to succeed.
BUT, after the last couple of seasons, I have come to hate the attitude of our own fanbase, an attitude that seems to be the polar opposite of Bama's. It seems like lots of LSU fans have a perpetual "sky is falling", "the wheels are coming off", "doomsday" attitude when it comes to LSU football. Everything, and I mean everything, seems to signal for some fans the beginning of the end. This board is continually a rant of anything and everything that's wrong. Its not even fun to read anymore. Now, our own media is calling out the fanbase (See Warner's post today). Its just unbelievable to me that this attitude seems so pervasive, not just here, but in the stadium as well. And its sick. I'm not sitting here saying Les Miles is Jesus Christ, or that the program can't be better. BUT, I am sitting here saying that some of you so-called "fans" need some perspective (look this year at: USC, OK, even Notre Dame for Pete's sake) & realize that things CAN be a lot worse. I remember my grandfather telling me years ago that LSU fans were the best fans in the world when they're winning, but the worst in the world when they're losing. Now, it seems like even when we win, people aren't happy because it wasn't "dominating" enough or because we "almost lost". I'm sure every program has these types of fans, but it seems, based on reading different blogs & message boards, that this attitude is most vocal here at LSU. And that's a shame.

Simple answer:
Yes LSU have become equal to Bama fans and in some cases worse.

Don't you think both attitudes might have something to do with our respective histories? Seems kind of natural for us to have a chip on our shoulder given 40 years of gradual decline followed by the explosion of kill that was this last decade. People are afraid decline has set in again.
As for Bama, the origin of their attitude is obvious.

I have several reasons, but this one is at the top of the list...

this seems more true that ever.. and I have to attribute it to a general sense of insecurity. These fans are like an ugly guy with a new hot girlfriend. They don't know how to take it in stride and enjoy the feeling of success, because they are so f'n worried about the memory of having to date ugly fat girls. I hope it doesn't become a self-fulfilling prophecy.

I agree- to an extent. That still doesn't justify the attitude.

Yes, those that went to road games during 2001 and 2003 saw a fan base that was a hell of a lot more family and good natured party-like.
If you were in the small crowd that was at the SEC championship game versus Tennessee back in 2001, you know exactly what I am talking about. That small crowd was the most cohesive group of just great fans I have ever seen or been a part of at a LSU game - bar none.
LSU was on the way up - and the fans were appreciative and showed better class than some of today's spoiled, instant gratification fans.

I would say it's more like a guy being with a girl that everybody can't stand and has made fun of her. They stopped hanging out with him and even started to make fun of him too - as long as he is with her. They all tried to warn him about things that are slowly but surely coming true, and he fights it everyday but just can't seem to muster up the denial inside anymore. He is officially balanced between his friends and his love (or so he thinks) of this girl that nobody likes.
THAT is more like what's going on with LSU fans right now.

We're the worst fan base in America right now.

No. Bama fans are much worse than LSU fans. In fact, everybody is worse than LSU fans.
LSU fans are just misunderstood, falsely accused and innocent!!

Some or most LSU fans fear Saban.Because he is at Bama they see any fault in the Tiger program as the end of LSU football.

Gotten to where I absolutely despise a big part of our fan base.
When it's OK to boo our players, leave in the middle of games where we need the people in the seats, the vile hatred of our coach, and just the general 'entitled' attitude of our ignorant post 2003 fans.... it reminds me of everything I've always hated about Bama fans.
Makes me sick and ashamed of what winning did to a lot of us.
Just a bunch of truly classless stupid trash claiming LSU lately and this season made them think that was OK because there were so many of them.

Sad to say, but yes we are. I have been an LSU fan since I can remember. First trip to Tiger Stadium was 1996 Ole Miss game. There for Tenn. in OT in 2000, every home and road game from 2001-2005, and 03 BCS game.
IMO the fans started taking on this ugly face beginning with the 2004 season. I remember being in the Super Dome when we beat Oklahoma and looking around at a bunch of old, drunk coonasses and zit-faced students.
The young people were in a state of bewilderment and ecstasy, as if they never thought upon coming to LSU they would actually get to celebrate a national title. And so many older men crying, hugging and high-fiving each other, with a look of validation on their faces of having gone through so many disappointing seasons/losses/coaches/etc.
Gone are those days of humbleness and genuine excitement to overachieve, based on our M.O. the previous 20 years. Now this new Tiger fan base is all about entitlement and arrogance and focused on our "underachieving" coach and team. It's a superficiality of sorts, and it is discouraging to witness. Because I know of no other way to enact a personality change among our fans other than us having a few losing seasons. And that's sad.

We just know we are on the cusp of being a "traditional" football school like Penn State, Ohio State, Notre Dame, USC, Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Nebraska, and unfortunately ALABAMA.
Although we have been awesome as of late, and even now, we fear not having a good enough run to be considered a true "historical" football powerhouse program. This fear is real and justified.

So true. I even remember fans grumbling about Saban during that season.

If that's our goal, then we're wasting our time. I don't think the domination of those teams IN THE PAST is possible anymore. First, you don't have coaches (other than JoePa) staying put in 1 place long enough to really achieve those records. Secondly, even if they wanted to stay that long, given the impatience that you're attempting to defend, the coach would probably be run out on a stake. Look at JoePa, for example. If he had some seasons like he's had in the previous 8 years or so, we would be yelling for his head. Third, when a team like USC can no longer dominate the PAC-10, you know the parity among the programs is a real factor & will again undermine the ability to dominate for longer than a cycle of a few years. Finally, do you really want to trade LSU's seasons the past few years for those of A&M, Nebraska, Notre Dame or Oklahoma? Basically you're arguing that we want to be like Alabama, but because we aren't there now, its ok to act like the world is coming to an end?

Again, I don't agree that your goal of having "a good enough run" is even possible anymore without some turbulence. Nor do I agree with you that fear that we aren't good enough to compete anymore is "real & justified." There are a lot of programs around the country, even some very historical programs, who'd love to be in LSU's position right now. Not saying we should be complacent, just that maybe the grass isn't greener on the other side.
