I joined TD.com in 2003 and I don't even know if it was around yet in 2002 but I could imagine a similar meltdown on here after Arkansas threw those 2 long passes on our Prevent Defense to win and keep us out of the SEC Championship game. I'm not defending Miles nor am I bashing Saban. I'm sure, though, that people that thought Saban wasn't the right hire at the time, were calling for his head after that game.

Saban had just won LSU an SEC title for the first time in 15 years the year before. Who really didn't think Saban was the right hire at that time?

Completely different situations. LSU was a mediocre program coming off of 2 losing seasons, with a Peach Bowl and 2 Indy Bowls being the highlight of the entire decade. This decade we have 2 NC's and 2 SEC championships.

Last 15 SEC games LSU is 7-8...apples and oranges.

Not really. You have to recall that, only one season earlier, Saban had led LSU to its first SEC Championship in the two division era.

Miles is coming off of a 7-5 campaign.

ohhhh how we forget bad times.

Believe it or not...when everyone gets there way and Miles is gone..the next coach (after the honeymoon period...if there is one..because people won't agree with the hire)...will be compared to Miles...and people will forget his bad moments just like they did Sabans

Don't know why this is even being compared, but here is the deal. Saban went for the FG and not the 1st down then after the kickoff went into a prevent defense. This is a high percentage, understandable coaching decision. There was nothing baffling or WTF about that.

A year after winning the SEC, and after losing the starting QB and starting S for the year, I don't think anyone was questioning whether or not Saban was the right coach.

POed, and at Saban? Oh Yes.

Worried that it was a pattern? No. Knew it was an anomaly.

LSU 2008/2009..even many parts of the 2007 BCS season..a pattern had arisen.

Process vs Results..some were worried about the minutiae-fade and missing methodolgy..long before the winning percentage finally began to run thinner on elite talent.

You mean because of blown secondary coverage?

Because that's perfectly comparable to clock mismanagement.

Do you guys actually read your posts before hitting submit?

No I had faith in Saban. He was/is an intelligent coach. Miles does things every year to make you just laugh and wonder wtf is he thinking.

Just listen to the guy try to talk. He sounds like he is struggling to put words together.

Not because of blown coverage, but because of calling the Prevent defense when they were backed up against a wall. I'm sorry if I offended you by pointing out an opinion a lot of people had after that game. I will check with you before I press the submit button next time.

What about the year Bama shut out Saban. What was it like 41-0 or something like that. Grass is always greener, bla bla bla.

2002 was really thrown out the window because Saban just won the SEC in 2001 and Mauck was out for the year after leading the team to a 5-1 start with him. LSU probably wins the SEC again if Mauck doesn't go down.

Just like how 2008 is thrown out for Miles because of the Perrilloux situation. Neither coach should have anything taken against him from his 2002 and 2008 season respectively.
