Will a top notch OC even come here if Crowton is fired?

With Les being on the hot seat will a top notch come here with the possibility of having to look for a job after one season (assuming a new HC wouldnt want to keep him)?

Don't discount that before or after any money has changed hands, an ego will continue to talk. Good coaches at the college level (whether they display humility or not) probably are always thinking about what they are capable of given a ton of talent.

Sure, anyone aspiring to be a head coach would come in a heartbeat. Its obvious Les doesn't give a rat sass what you call and he will be fired in 1-2 more years. Hell yeah.

probably not a big deal if you look at it historically, Paul Rhodes came to Auburn the year Tubby crashed and burned and he ended up head coach at Iowa State the next year.

The question is, who is truly the best candidate. My qualifications would be...

- coaches from the sidelines
- possibly a former QB
- not a system guy
- past success

The last thing I want is some gimmick guy who has put up a ton of yards at a small/mid school who has never gone up against brutal defenses week after week.

#1 on my list would be a proven QB coach. we really need one.

Its a risk/reward trade-off.

The risk you mentioned.

But (1) pay is good here; (2) facilities are good; (3) fans are rabid; (4) talent is pretty amazing; (5) les is a 100% delegator (besides the fact that some idiots on here think he calls plays) and as oc you get to run your own show; (6) most importantly, les is loyal and almost always enthusiastically supports his assistants and coords for advances, including most conspicuously, head coaching jobs.

I think you have a valid point but I hope we are both wrong.
