Ok i was thinking Drew is 30, Will he play till 40 ? I don't know,But when is it time to groom someone? There are few QB's coming out this year. Should we wait a few more seasons ?
Also do we draft a high profile guy 1st rounder or do we take a late pick/UFA ?

Or is the future at QB in Chase Daniel ?
unless someone picks him up before we resign him to practice sqaud.l

the older drew gets the less time we will have to groom someone.
Do we really want him to be 34 or 35 and grooming somone for only one season and maybe retire?

okay more like 2-3 years..

but i hear drew wants to play till he is 40? haha but lets say another 8-10 years before he retires.

i guess you could look at the eagles taking kolb so early when mcnabb was 30 or 31..

If The o line keeps blocking the way they have been .Drew is going to play til he is 35+. We will probably get a young qb when he is about 33 or 34.

How realistically how long can you keep a good QB of starter quality on the practice squad or on the bench being groomed.

Is there an example of a QB that waited 5 years in a system to start and then became something after the incumbent retired?

The Sainst QB of the future is not currently on the Saints roster. It is a necessity in my opinion that the Saints draft a QB in 2010, if not to eventually succeed Brees, then to provide for a quality back up as the reliance upon backup QB's such as aging players Jamie Martin and Mark Brunell is eventually going to bite the Saints on the arse if Brees ever goes to down to injury.

You can never say its too early.

(Please god don't let this ever happen)

But what if Drew Brees goes down in the next couple games? Do you really think we will still be a super bowl team with Brunell?

The Saints don't need a QB of the future on the roster. What they need is a serviceable QB in case something happens to Drew Brees.

If that means drafting a QB in the mid rounds and developing him into someone who COULD start on a team someday (even if it's not the Saints) I would consider that to be a smart move. It pays to have a decent insurance policy on the roster, even if you don't use it.

I really do think it's time for the Saints to think about this. We can't have dinosaurs backing up Brees forever. We need someone we can make BETTER under Brees.
