I wonder how much Ole Miss's embracing of their "heritage" has hurt them on the football field over the years. Seems like somebody would have done a thesis or something on that over the years.

I know that Ole Miss hasn't won even an SEC title since '63. But i think they started integrating black players onto their team in the early 70's, roughly the time other SEC school like LSU did. I think Bama was the first SEC team to do so in like 70-71 after getting clocked by USC who had Sam Cunningham. (hard to imagine that when I was about 10 years old SEC football teams were still white only). Bama then went on to thourougly dominate the SEC in the 70's.

I don't know about the extent that Ole Miss integrated their team at first though. And I'd guess the whold "Colonel Reb" and the rebel flag, etc. must've had some effect on recruiting over the years. It'd be interesting to see some type of study or examination of this though.

I love all the loving support for the Confederate Flag coming out.. Considering it and the words "the south will rise again" are treasonous in their own right. Never mind the connotations it's been in the past. Sure it is heritage... too bad some parts of heritage shouldn't be honored... but hell let's honor the inquisitions and witch burnings while we are at it.

Idiots.

btw when we... the USA won the war we should have took a page out of their book for flag making because I will admit the Confederate flag does look much cooler than ours... but still.
