The Best of Les Miles--today's press conference.

Thought I'd share some quotes from today's (Monday) weekly press conference from Coach Miles. The entire Q&A can be found at LSUsports.net (Please don't ask for the link 'cos of computer problems. Thanks.)
Opening statement...
“We recognize this league as a dominant league to play in, and certainly we are looking forward to returning to league play. In terms of injuries, Jordan Jefferson returns to practice today. We’re excited to get him back and throwing and moving around. Richard Dickson should return to practice today. I suspect T-Bob Hebert will return to practice today. We thought Dickson hurt his knee, but we found out later he tore something in his thigh, so it was very sincerely a thigh contusion. When I tell you stuff like that, sometimes I’m deceptive, but sometimes I’m right to the point.
“I felt like the offense was spotty at times."
“Jarrett Lee is our second-team quarterback and competing like heck. He goes into the game and does not play well and certainly not as well as he would like to play. He was 7-of-21 for a little over 100 yards and a touchdown. He was our quarterback that piloted the team that won the game. He’d like to play better. I think he understands how to, but again, we’re fortunate that he competes and fights for us. I think you’ll find that he’ll play better as we go forward."
On if it’s possible we’ll see Jarrett Lee play this weekend... “I think the good news is Jarrett had the experience that he had last Saturday. Now, I think he’s more prepared to step onto the field if need be.”
On not converting third and one or fourth and one opportunities...“I think we’re probably less than we’d like to be in those short-yardage positions and tries. I can tell you that it seems to be a variety of reasons. It’s not necessarily the line, the fullback or the ball carrier. It’s an opportunity to mishit occasionally."
On coming out flat against Louisiana Tech...“I think there is a reality to how you play football. There is no way to go onto the field less in any way. You have to go onto the field to play with an intensity, a want and a fire, and if you don’t have that, you can play any team that wants it, and it can be a very, very dicey situation."
On how difficult it is to change the game plan with a quarterback struggling...
“It’s something that you have to have the flexibility to do, and fortunately, Saturday night we had the ability to control the ball on the ground as well, but we’d certainly like to have some of the plays in the air back, and certainly Jarrett would too."
On throwing the ball six times in a row when the offense was struggling in the third quarter...“We certainly like to get him (Lee) on track and going as well. With LaFell, Toliver, Randle and R.J. Jackson, there are some really talented guys out there, and the want to get them the ball certainly is there."

Under the Miles administration, this is one glaring thing that stands out. "If it isn't working, keep doing it until it does or die trying." Instead of figuring out what will work that night. Explains the perceived lack of halftime adjustments. There are none.

Now that right there is priceless Miles speak. I tell you stuff and maybe I am telling the truth and maybe I'm not.

i think you are failing to realize that, even though it's frustrating when we struggle, that the aim of miles (when this is done) is extremely desirable. we NEED a running game to win games, we NEED JL to be able to pass if JJ gets hurt again. miles worked on those situations during games that he could. that is, a form of practice during live play. we still won the games, albeit we won ugly. miles was trying to IMPROVE a facet of the game that is damn important. that is part of being a good coach. if the goal was to win only w/o working on weak aspects of our offense, we would have looked better but failed to get in the work he thinks is needed in the upcoming games against much better competition.

You didn't see any changes on the defensive side of the ball?

In the 2nd half, we gave up about 92 total yards, most of which came on the final drive.

Unfortunately for us, he coaches like he speaks

I am now more stupid for reading that

Could it possibly be that Miles had confidence that we would get the win, and he kept calling passes to try to help Lee get it right? Seems like good coaching to me. Get the guy you MAY very well need ready.
To hell with trying to win by a huge margin when you need to get your 2nd QB primed and ready. Glad Miles is the coach and not some of you guys.

I disagree. I am a Miles supporter, somewhat by default because its too damn hard to replace any coach these days. But LSU is almost through the season, has played 3 other non con games and lee could have seen time at any point of the season.
LSU's approach doesn't change if they are winning/losing. Earlier this year it was run up the middle, do or die. Didn't matter what the situation was, LSU was going to run Scott up the gut whether it was working or not. ALso saw this with the defense last year.

i think les miles' speech-giving misread carl jung & thought the quote said "the mind operates between nonsense and more nonsense...."

well, i agree that the point is to win - even if it's ugly. hell, if u discount ugly, florida & bama would be operating at .500

So does this mean that he KNEW that we were running the ball well, even though the pass game wasn't working, and then blatantly neglected it?

"Primed and ready"?
Lee played almost the entire year last year.

I thought we had practice each week to improve our performance. Game time its find out what works and coninue until they stop us. What doesn't work will be improved during the next week of practice.

What?!
I think he just wanted to see how "mishit" looked on the transcript and in print.
Damn, I promised myself I wouldn't post editorial comments, but this was just too precious.
Well, even if I hadn't, my "WildTiger" wife would have anyway...

"Confuse them with stupidity"
