So I talked to an ex player.....

on the O Line... and he pretty much said coach Stud was not a good coach. He only played one year for Stud and all he talked about was how good Stacy Searels was. I told him we could use him right now and he said our o line was horrible and mentioned T Bob getting bulldozed by the Tulane d lineman on the first series. FWIW he didnt seem too optimistic about LSU's future. Why I posted this... I dont know. I do think some changes need to be made to ensure we dont slip from being a national power.
I think Miles is a good man..... but is that what we need?

I think Miles, with the right staff, could be a great CEO type coach.

But how long do we let Miles make these frick ups with his staff?

+1
Miles is a RP away from 5 straight 10 win seasons. The only season where his team won less than 10 games was last season and he had Hatch and Lee under center for most of the season.

Bo Pelini as DC. Good hire.
Crowton as OC. Good hire when we had an experienced QB under center. He may not be a long-term fix though.
Chavis as DC. Good hire.
He's only really screwed up with the Co-DC decision. The Crowton hire paid off in 2007. He may not be the long-term answer but it will be up to Miles to make that call.

miles has had his chance to be a ceo coach. with the exception of cooper and chavis i would say he has failed horribly while hiring new staff at LSU.
Crowton=fail
McCarthy=mediocre
stud=even more mediocre
yano=still a mystery as far as on the field coaching, but most def. not the equa of henson in recruiting
i'm not even gonna talk about the promotion of mallory and peveto to co dc's.

most coaches are CEO types. Look at Paterno/Bowden.

Excellent response. I now have total faith that your OP is factual.

Yeah Pelini was an awful choice

Crowton was a good hire for ONE YEAR. What has he done since then? Not a single person thought Malloveto was a good idea even before we let them arse rape our defense. Chavis has done well enough, at least in terms of keeping the opposing team out of the end zone. His problem is that he has a bend-but-don't-break defense. It looks really bad when you have to fire both your DC and OC in consecutive seasons. And from the sound of things, we hired Crowton after Oregon told him to take a hike. We should never hire a coach who was let go from another team.

pelini was part of his original staff. i'm talking about replacing guys he loses.

Ask yourself if the football team is in better shape now or when CLM took over. The answer to me is when he took over. Ask the same question about UF, Bama, and Ga Tech - all teams with great coaches. We are on a slow walk (getting quicker) towards the middle of the pack.

He still hired Pelini away from another program (Pelini was at OU in 04). It's not like Pelini had ever coached with Miles before.
