You guys have this standard of excellence etched in your brains from what Saban did. The first thing I put my finger on where there is a major difference so far is the last several years Saban was there, he had an above average QB and left one up in to 07 that Miles won with. Right now, Les has not proved he can recruit, develop and win at the same level with this own QB. In 2005 he took a chance on Perriloux then for the 06 class didn't sign a qb. So, you went 2 classes without a QB. That becomes a major issue in the SEC. Is it Miles' fault? I'm not sure.

Next, try to remember you are 8-2 right now. You played great defense against Florida and Bama who are the best 2 teams in the country this year and you were only a couple plays away in each game from winning. I'd go as far as to say had Miles been developing a QB from as far back as 05 or 06 you probabaly win 1 and maybe both those games. Understand, a young QB against those defenses is gonna have trouble no matter what play is called most times. The throwing windows are very small and the casual fan doesn't understand what it's like against those pass rushes. Play those games with Jordan having another year or 2 experience I like the chances better. Nevertheless, understand the only way anyone is going to beat Saban right now will be a low scoring game where either 1 big play, 1 mental break down, 1 turn over, 1 special teams play is the difference in the game.

I think there are alot of good qualities about Les Miles and the only questions I have now is can he develop a winning qb who can make a few plays against an Alabama or Florida? And if you lose one or 2 of those games how does the team respond? Last year, they didn't respond so well in my opinion. It will be interesting to see what happens these last 2 games b/c both teams are riding confidence.

That's a pretty good summation.

Matt Flynn and RP were molded into good QBs under Miles.

Jefferson looks good too.

JR also played two years under Miles and I don't understand how he gets no credit for his development.

Apparently neither do our coaches, given the fact that almost every pass play they called was for a slow-developing, medium to long pass route.

Good post! The only thing I would add is the fact that since Jimbo Fisher left the level of play of our QBs have been declining. Playcalling aside, Jimbo could develop QBs. Ever since he left and Crowten came in, Crowten has not lived up to the standard that Jimbo had set in developing our QBS. This in my opinion is the reason for the struggles of our offense and QBs. Talent everywhere, we're a solid QB away right now!

We also pay our coach 3.9 million per year. Anybody in any profession making this much money with all the tools avalible for successs should do great things. Good post by the way.

Good post.

This seems like an opportunity for me to do the same.

When your team is continually out-possessed and out-gained by inferior competition, yet you still win, it tells me you are just more talented and deeper than your opponent. When LSU plays teams with similar talent and depth, it comes down to coaching. I don't like our chances in these games.

I'm going to the Ole Miss game, and after last week, I liked our chances. After this week, I expect to lose. I saw last night the same thing I saw last year. Coming off a tough loss to Bama, we survived an inferior opponent.

I expect history to repeat itself the rest of the season. To expect anything different would be Einstein's definition of insanity.

Blow out loss to Ole Miss, followed by a gut-wrenching performance against Arkansas, which will include several displays from players indicative that Miles has lost the team.

We should however recover well enough to perform splendidly in our bowl game.

It is what it is. I don't really know exactly what I would do to change anything, but a change in QB development and offensive coordination would be a start. After doing this on the defensive side of the ball last year, it just leaves me wondering why Miles is in the same tax bracket as Saban, especially if we're going to pay our coordinators so much.

I'll big problem is we lost RP. no qb was coming here immediately after signing him so we have an experience gap. you can only bridge that gap with time. look at the qb on BCS top ranked teams. florida (4th year qb) texas (5th year) alabama (4th year).

look at the teams with frosh or soph qb. oklahoma, miami, usc, ohio state.

you can't win the sec or nc with fresh. or soph. qb.

next year _ LSU no. 1!

Considering how jealous our fanbase is concerning Miles pay scale, you can't talk reason to these idots

They all want Miles to walk on water for them to stop complaining.

Really? Who has the better record at LSU over the same time-span...Miles or Saban? I liked Saban and appreciated what he did for our program, but talking about him with reverence is plain fricking silly.

Good point, tigerfan. The other problem, and I believe the major problem, is that SEC DCs have figured out what Crowton will call.

I am not saying that Crowton is the best developer for QBs; however, outside of Lee they haven't been bad.

Flynn
Perilloux
Jefferson have all looked good

I just think it's pretty obvious Lee just doesn't have what it takes.

I disagree.

I think last year the defense was terrible, and they looked like they gave up. Last night the D was flyin to the football in the second half. Chavis will not let them quit, and they will keep us in the remaining games.

What I saw last night was a team hungover from last week that played with little motivation, and had a terrible offensive gameplan.

I think if our offensive gameplan would have been more run-oriented, we beat them by 14-17 points.

Add to the fact, we had a few starters on O out for the game, and i think it was a recipe for a poorly played game.

I look for LSU to split the next two games if JJ plays and is near 100%.
